Coffee morning in aid of Longford Hospice takes place in Richard and Ann Howards, Creenagh on Thursday 19th 11am to 1pm.
We were all delighted with the increase in marks this year from 236 to 247. We were among the “Best Improvers” in the county only beaten by Lanesboro who increased by 16 points. The great efforts of all our Volunteers, TUS and FAS workers and valuable sponsors has paid off & been nicely acknowledged by the adjudicators. Our marks increased in a total of 8 out of 10 categories. Well done to those who were given a special mention i.e. Aine’s Loft Hair Studio and Casey’s traditional bar front. The report also paid tribute to the numerous residential estates that are presented to a very high standard. Castle Gardens, The Courtyard and Castle Park were given a special mention. It was also noted that many estates are large enough to have their own Tidy Towns Projects under wildlife, waste management or landscaping, so perhaps that’s something to be undertaken by residents associations for next year. The full report can be viewed on the internet www.tidytownsresultsbook2013. The Committee is moving ahead with plans for 2014 and has already taken on board the recommendations in the report. We are very proud of our village and the big efforts of all those involved. We would welcome more participation from anyone who has time to spare and your support over the winter months with a number of fund raising events that are planned. As there is no funding available from government sources for the foreseeable future we are back to basics in trying to raise our own funds to keep the Tidy Towns steadily improving as it has been for the last few years.
