We offer sympathy to Bernie Bannon and the Bannon family on the sudden death of his first cousin, James Bannon, Ardagh whose funeral took place last week. May he rest in peace. James and his brother, Vincent were regular supporters of our Streete Parish Park Bingo each Monday night.

I am delighted to report that most past pupils from our parish have now received their invitations for Gathering 2013 event and already many replies have been received, the first one back was an acceptance from New York. Should anyone know of any person who did not get one please contact Kevin Brady 087 1375222 A.S.A.P. and one will be forwarded. As previously stated we ask all to reply whether with a yes or no so that we will have an idea of numbers in advance for catering purposes. As this is a huge undertaking we ask any person or group in the parish or surrounding areas who are willing to display their talents singing, dancing or any other unusual acts to contact us now. We also ask anyone willing to help put up bunting and tidy up the area to contact any of the following – Brian 086 2596656, Alice 086 8130780, Pat 086 8433355, Irene 087 9318528 or Kevin 087 1375222.

There was a most interesting and unusual display of really old Vintage Cars by the Wolsey Car Club last Sunday from 11.30 to 1.30 when drivers called to the Tea Rooms at Tullynally Castle. The drivers were most willing to talk to interested onlookers before doing a test hill climb in the grounds from where they travelled to Lough Crew in Co. Meath.

Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers received a very warm welcome on their trip to Lanesborough on Sunday September 8th. Seadna Ryan of Lanesborough Tourism Co-operative Society explained how the organisation is hard at work developing walking routes in the area before he led the Ramblers round the Commons North Woodlands Trail, a loop walk beside Lough Ree just south of the town. The walkers were lucky to meet John Casey, an expert on local history at the start of the loop and he accompanied them, imparting lots of interesting information along the way on subjects such as the local landlords and the limestone quarries that used to thrive in the area. The heritage information boards at several points beside the trail also gave lots of details and illustrations of local history and the flora and fauna of the area. There was a plentiful supply of tasty blackberries for the Ramblers as they followed Seadna along the meandering trail through the wood. Thanks are due to Nini Murray for organising this walk and to Seadna Ryan and John Casey for making the Ramblers so welcome; the refreshments and chat in the Community Centre afterwards were well appreciated. Further developments of this walking area are planned and the Ramblers hope to return to the area soon. Last Sunday afternoon in mixed weather the Ramblers visited Abbeyshrule for a most enjoyable walk with Patricia Bruton and Teresa Coloe. Our P.R.O. is away for two weeks so our details are skimpy in his absence. This coming Sunday the Ramblers will visit Edenmore Bog with James and Marita MacNerney on September 22nd. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and pause at the petrol station at the Red Cow roundabout on the Longford By-pass at 2pm before moving on to meet at Matt Grey’s farm in Edenmore at 2.30pm. TRIP: - Boherquill Ramblers propose going on their Annual October trip to Nenagh, Co. Tipperary on 11th October. Hotel Bed & Breakfast and one evening meal will cost €190 this will include bus etc. as always. If interested text Brian 086 2596656 or Patricia 087 9812801. New members welcome.
