A large crowd turned out at Ballinalee’s newly refurbished Thomas Ashe Hall recently to mark the golden jubilee of Clonbroney parish priest, Fr Brian Brennan.

Among the audience was the popular cleric’s mother, Mrs Catherine Brennan who this September celebrates her 100th birthday.

As well as close family and friends, Fr Brian was joined by numerous locals in a parish where he has remained for the past seven years.

A native of Bunlahy himself, Fr Brian also enjoyed a lengthy spell serving in nearby Carrick-on-Shannon.

“There was a great crowd there on the day,” said local woman Pauline Brady. “Fr Brian is very popular so it (celebration) was great to see.”

Based on those comments and the large crowds present, it’s perhaps not surprising why the keen golfer is held in such high regard within the wider Ballinalee area.
