FISHING COMPETITION: Results of junior fishing competition hosted by Loch Gowna and Upper Erne Aunglers on Derries Lake on Saturday 20th April. 1st Kayleigh Matthew and Marc-Anthony Lee, Arva; 2nd Aaron Carr Drumlish; 3rd Nathan Simpson, Arva and Callum Simpson Mulrick Gowna. Pools 1st Nathan Simpson Arva; 2nd Kayleigh Lee Arva; 3rd Aaron Carr Drumlish. 13 boats participated with 26 juniors fishing.

These utensils are the property of the Active Age Committee and in order for the committee to continue hosting monthly social gatherings for our Active Age personnel it is essential that all items are returned without delay.

DEATH OF MR PATSY COMISKEY: It was with regret that we learned of the death of Patsy Comiskey, The Rocks Loch Gowna on Thursday 18 April at Cavan General Hospital. Due to ill health Patsy had spent the past few years in college view nursing home Cavan. He was a top class barman. He worked for many years in Dublin, Kiernan’s Bar in Arva, Pikers Lodge Hotel Loch Gowna. He was a very friendly person and always enjoyed a bit of banter. His remains were removed from Finnegans Funeral Home Cavan on Friday evening to the Church of the Holy Family Loch Gowna and following requiem mass on Saturday at 11am burial took place in adjoining cemetery. To his brothers Paul Loch Gowna, Sean England; Charlie Cavan and Bernard Mayo, sisters in law nieces nephews grandnieces and grandnephews to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace.

RESULTS OF FISHING COMPETITION: Results of Bernard Kiernan Memorial Open Boat Pike Fishing Competition that took place on Cloone Lake on Sunday 21st April. 1st Gabriel Reilly Aughnacliffe; 2nd Joe Smith Denn; 3rd Joe McDermott Longford; 4th Marty Cosworth Dring; Heaviest fish caught on the day by Gabriel Reilly Aughnacliffe 23 lbs. Next competition on Sunday 19th May Harry Kinkade Memorial Aughanoran lake . Fishing from 11am to 5pm.

CONFIRMATION: Congratulations to the 31 boys and girls fro Loch Gowna Mullinalaghta and Cortober NS who were confirmed by Bishop Colm O’Reilly assisted by Fr P J Fitpatrick on Wednesday 24th April 2013 in the Church of Holy Family Loch Gowna. The recipients were (Gowna) Lauren Brady Emily Hand, Ciara Cadden; Oonagh Sheils Andrea Gaffney; Rhys Hudson; Brain O’Reilly, Cormac Boylan, Frank Casey Cillian O’Reilly, Dean O’Reilly; Roisin O’Reilly; Caoimhe Madden, Jack Madden Cian Hartin; Katie -Lou Dolan (Mullinalaghta) Mark Hanlon Caoimhe Lynch Natalie Curry; Jasmin Buckley,Tommie Mooney; Eoghan Byrne, Amy Brady, Caroline McGivney and Mary Rodgers (Cortober) Fionan Brady, Kevin Brennan Maeve Finnegan, Lana McGahern, Conor O’Reilly and John O’Reilly.

SYMPATHY: Deepest sympathy is extended to Fr PJ Fitzpatrick PP Loch Gowna on the death of his brother Liam (former postmaster) Shannonbidge Co Offaly which occurred on Saturday 27th April. His remains were removed to St Ciaran’s Church Shannonbridge on Sunday evening and following requiem Mass on Monday burial took place in Clonmacnois cemetery. May he rest in peace.
