League: Arva have their first outing in the 2013 All County Football League Division 3 on this Sunday 24th February when they will play Templeport in Michael Cully Park at 2.00 pm. The visitors had a good result on Sunday last when they drew with Ballymachugh so the Arva players need to hit the ground running if they hope to collect the points. The club calls on all supporters to come to the game and cheer on the players.

Scór: The following members represented Arva in the Scór Sínséar competition which was held in St Brigid’s Community Centre, Lough Gowna on Friday 8th February - Recitation: Paddy Mulligan (self-written); Solo Singing: Chris Ward (accompanied by John Gormley); Novelty Act: Lionel Mulally, Cathleen Whelan, Peter Morris, Shane Finnegan and James Morris; Ballad Group: Josephine
Reilly, Anne Doyle, Brid Scott, John Gormley and Niall Gormley; Instrumental Music: Fiona Finnegan, Laura Magarahan, John Gormley and Niall Gormley. On the night only Chris Ward got through to the Finals which were held in Ballinagh Community Centre on Friday night last but unfortunately he wasn’t successful. On behalf of the club we thank everyone for their efforts on our behalf and for keeping the flag flying at Scór. We congratulate all the winners and wish them every success in the Ulster competition.

Church Services: For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – Sunday 24th February - Service of Morning Prayer – Carrigallen and Columbkille at 10.00 am, Arva and Gowna at 11.30 am.

New Roof: Arva Parish Church needs a new roof and the committee are presently fundraising for this purpose. A fundraising Dance will be held in Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva on this Friday night – 22nd February at 9pm. Tickets €10 or you can pay on door. We encourage everyone in the community to support this worthy venture. It is a beautiful building and every effort must be made to keep it in good condition.

Busy Bee’s: Childcare Facility has relocated to the Church of Ireland National school opposite Brady’s garage and Bruse Manor on the Cavan rd. Opening hours 8.30 to 6.15. Full day care - 140 euro per week, Playschool free for qualifying children (age 3years and 2months on 1st September starting date) or 47 euro per week, Afterschool - 70 euro (lunch included) per week. Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue on each Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is over €3,000-00 in Prize Money on offer each week (€1,000-00 on page 9) making it one of the best around. €1,000 winners were Mary Hall, Curnadrung. Ann Brady, Rosduff. Rosie Hourican, Woodlands. Eyes down at 8.30 pm.

Book tokens: St. Mary’s National School, Arva are collecting book tokens from the Irish Daily Mirror in order to get a collection of free books for the school. The tokens will be available each day in the paper until the end of February 2013. Anyone who would like to donate tokens can drop them in to the office in the school. Anyone who wishes to enrol their child in St. Mary’s N.S. for September 2013, please contact the School Office on (049) 4335560 for an enrolment form.

Information evening: Arva/Cornafean Community Alert are hosting a text alert information evening in St Patrick’s Hall in Arva on tonight Wednesday - 20th February. The Crime Prevention Officer for Cavan/Monaghan will be in attendance to give a talk and answer any questions / concerns you may have. We urge as many people as possible to attend this meeting especially those who wish to sign up to the new text alert system. Free Money: Saturday Night’s Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva is called ‘Free Money Saturday’ and on Saturday night last there was no winner. On this Saturday night there will be €300 on offer. Free entry to the draw. You must be there to win – the draw takes place anytime after 10.00pm.

Line Dancing: Classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva every Thursday night with classes for Beginners at 8.30 pm and for the more Advanced at 9.30 pm. Come along and enjoy a good night’s dancing in a friendly environment. Get out – Get active.

Walking group: The Arva Trotters Walking Group will be out each Sunday morning at 11.15 am. Everyone welcome.

Festival: The Arva 3 Province Festival will be held from the 26th July to 5th August 2013. In conjunction with the Gathering Ireland 2013, we hope to bring family and friends home to Arva and showcase what the area has to offer. A meeting will be held in the Breffni Arms Hotel on Tuesday 12th February at 9pm. We wish to invite everyone from Arva and surrounding areas to attend this meeting. In particular we would invite anyone with an interest in the Arts and Crafts, in History and Culture, and everyone who is willing to help out with the events. The Arva 3 Province Festival is for Arva and surrounding areas and will need the help and support of everyone to make it the best it can be!

Aromatherapist: M.s Jean Goode will be coming to The Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva at 6.45pm on Monday night next - 25th February - to demonstrate the benefits of Oils etc. to the Senior Citizens Club. Make a note of the date as this is something not to be missed.

Sale of Work: will take place in St Patricks Hall, Arva on Friday 12th / Saturday 13th April in aid of the Arva Senior Citizens Club with a donation going to St Vincent de Paul and Trócaire. All donations of good second hand cloths, Toy’s, Book’s, Bric a Brac, small furniture in good condition, etc will be gratefully accepted. If required these can be collected anytime from now on. Unfortunately this year they cannot accept second hand televisions due to Saor View and no second hand mattresses. Presentation: Presentation of Cheque to Saint Christopher’s Hospice Cavan from the Gallant 15KM Challenge in Gilsenans Bar Arvagh on Friday 22nd February @10.30pm.
