Sympathy: Our deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs Kathleen Kiernan, Culray, Aughnacliffe and to her sons Peter and Alan, daughter Geraldine and all her family on the death last week of Kathleen’s husband Peter, ex Rate Collector, which occured at his residence after a short illness. May God grant rest to his soul.

Great win for School football team: Many congratulations to all the young footballers in Ballymahon Vocational School’s U.14 Juvenile team who beat Chanel College from Coolock in the Final of the Leinster Post-Primary Schools “D” Championship 2-8 to 1-8 in Kinnegad last week. A great achievement for the team and their Mentors. Well done to all involved.

Ballymahon-Landevant/Landaul Twinning Committee: At a well-attended AGM held at Murray’s Lounge on Wednesday 6th Feb 2013, the following Executive was elected: Officers elected:- Chairperson – Breege Murray. Vice-Chairperson - Sarah Frawley. Secretary – Rory Duncan. Assistant-secretary - Aidan Nally. Treasurer – Mary Murtagh. Asst. Treasurer – Ann Flanagan. P.R.O. – Carmel McCormack. Asst. P.R.O. – Mary Walsh. We wish the incoming committee the best of luck for the coming twelve months. New members are always welcome.

GAA Club championship: We wish to congratulate Karl Connolly who played with Ballymun Kickhams, Dublin in the semi-final of the AIB Club championship which was played in Thurles on Saturday last. The Kickhams team beat Dr. Crokes from Killarney, Co Kerry at Semple Stadium and now go on to play in the All-Ireland Final against St. Brigid’s of Roscommon on St. Patrick’s Day in Croke Park. Karl is a regular visitor to Rathmore, Ballymahon, where he comes down to visit his uncle, Pat Connolly and his family .

Innyside Singers: The Innyside Singers meet every Thursday night at The Bog Lane Theatre at 8p.m. for approximately one hour. The group, both men and women, are rehearsing for a Concert which they hope to put on in May. If you like to sing for fun, please go along and join them, you will be more than welcome.

Engagement: Congratulations to Annette Gerety, Gurteen, daughter of the late Seamus and Madge who recently announced her engagement to Dominic Glennon, son of Denis and Olive, Longford. We wish the young couple all the best for the future.

The aim of the service is to provide information on local activities and services available to older people as well as an opportunity for a friendly chat. If you are feeling lonely or isolated and you would like someone to talk to , this is the service for you. Doors close for Ballymahon Bakery: We wish the very best of luck for the future to Paddy and Catherine Flynn who recently closed the doors of their Bakery in Ballymahon for the last time having run a very successful business there for a long number of years. The Flynn family have been in the Bakery business here in town for many long years even before Paddy’s time. We hope all goes well for Paddy and his wife Catherine and their family in the years ahead.

Spring Stations: Spring Stations will take place in the Parish between now and 15th March 2013. Fr. Padraig would like to hear from anyone who would like to host a Station Mass in their home over the next few weeks in this, a “Year of Faith”.

Welcome home: We wish to welcome home from their holiday in Austria, sisters Una and Avril Kiernan and also their niece Lorna. We hope the ladies had an enjoyable time.

G.A.A: Congratulations to Frankie Dolan, former Ballymahon player who had a great game playing with St. Brigid’s, Kiltoom, Co Roscommon when they had a great win against Crossmaglen, Co Armagh in the semi-final of the AIB Club Championship which was played in Mullingar on Saturday afternoon last. They now go on to play in the All-Ireland Final against Ballymun Kickhams, Dublin in Croke Park on St. Patrick’s Day.

New Baby Boy: Congratulations to Pauric Connolly, Rathmore , son of Pat and Chris and Pauric’s wife Linda, daughter of Noel and Olive, Kenagh on the birth of their first new baby boy who was born in Mullingar Hospital on Wednesday last. We wish you all the best in the years ahead.

Shop closes in Barry: We wish a happy, well-earned retirement to Mrs Kathleen Mulvey, wife of the late Ned, who closed her Convenience Store in Barry village for the last time recently. Kathleen ran a very successful grocery business for over fifty years and gave sterling service to the people in the area during that time. She will have seen many changes in the business and in life around the village since she first arrived. Her efficiency and friendliness in the shop will be missed by everyone. We wish Kathleen good health and happiness in the years ahead.

Birthday wishes: Congratulations to Daphne Duncan, Bessfort, Ballymahon who celebrated a special birthday with her husband Enda, her family and lots of friends in Skelly’s Pub on Saturday night last. We hope you enjoyed the party Daphne, best wishes to you for the future.
