All-Ireland Schools Talent Competition: Best of luck to Justin Mc Guire who will perform in the All-Ireland semi final of the All-Ireland schools talent competition on Saturday evening next in Castlebar.

Justin is representing his school Ballymahon Secondary school and will perform a dance which he choreographed himself. Of the 27 acts which will perform on Saturday night next three will be picked to go through to the All-Ireland final which takes place take place in the Helix Theatre Dublin on the 9th March next and which will be screened by RTE television. The winners in the All-Ireland semi-finals will be picked by an audience voting process (votes cost one euro each with all proceeds going to the national charity Child line) and by three adjucators.A bus will travel to this event to support Justin and if you would like to book a place on the bus or if you would like to purchase a vote costing €1 each please contact 0879338566 for more information. Best of luck also to Sarah Hanley and Wayne O Malley who are representing Ballymahon Vocational school in the All-Ireland semi-final. Sarah and Wayne are very popular singing act who also hope to make it through to the final.

Yoga: Classes continue in the GAA Complex Carrickedmond on Thursday night’s. The class are been instructed by Donna Ainsley. Please call Rosie Hilliard at 0449357889 to book a place in the class. Everyone welcome.

House Stations: The following are dates for up-coming stations in the parish. Friday 22nd February at the home of Nora O Brien for the Lisnacreevagh area. Friday 8th March at the home of Dermot and Charlotte Mc Cormack for the Tashinney area. Monday 18th March at the home of Anthony and Mary Healy for the Kilcurry area.

Defibrillator Group: A class for new people wishing to learn the skills of CPR and how to use a defibrillator will take place in St Sinneachs hall Carrickedmond on Tuesday night the 05th March next. If you are interested in learning these important life saving skills please contact Seamus Mc Guire at 086-8286748, Anthony Green at 086-3993933 or Kathryn Keenan at 086-8226894.Please note anyone from sixteen years of age up is eligible to learn CPR.

Canoe Club: The recently formed Abbeyshrule Canoe Club held its inaugural AGM last November in the Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule. The AGM was well attended and those in attendance heard about the exciting plans for the year ahead. A number of initial club events were held during 2012 which resulted in over 60 people being awarded their L1 and L2’s kayaking skills. The focus of the club is on family canoeing and will concentrate on utilising the beautiful Royal Canal. The committee has secured an initial 12 canoes for club events which kick off in March next. Other fundraising activities will be held during the year. Annual Membership of the club is very good value at €15 per child, €30 per adult and €75 per family. For junior members a parent must also join as a member of the club. To fund the purchase of equipment there is also a Long Term Membership option (six years for price of five) of €150 per adult or €375 per family. Meeting: There will be a meeting of the parish finance committee on Tuesday night the 26th Feb. All committee members please attend.

Community Games: Upcoming events; Handwriting U10 Boys and Girls will be held in Carrickedmond Hall on Friday 22nd from 6-7pm. Cross-Country running events will take place at Ballymahon GAA grounds on Saturday 2nd March @11pm. Entries will be taken on the day. There will be bag-packing at Dunnes Stores on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd to raise funds for Longford County Community Games.
