Christmas Lights: Celebrate the start of Christmas this Friday evening 7 December in Granard. To kick-start the evening Santa arrives to town at 5.30pm and will be meeting and greeting all the children in the Community Centre. Come and visit our ‘Live Crib’ and enter into the true nostalgic spirit of Christmas.
For the first time in Granard you can experience and view a ‘Live Nativity Scene’ serenaded by St Mary’s Church Choir and accompanied by children from our local schools. Our Polish Community will also participate in singing all our favourite Christmas carols. All donations collected from this will be donated to St. Christopher’s in Longford. This will be all happening at the Market House / Town Hall at 7.30pm. At 8pm the Christmas lights will be officially switched on and our new Stationary Crib will be blessed by Fr.Simon Cadam. This Friday evening 7 December promises to be a wonderful family evening in Granard. So wrap up warm and come along and join us on this great community night!
Area Action Group: The sponsors of the local Community Employment Project incorporating Abbeylara Mullinalaghta and Bunlahy wish to thank everyone who supported their annual Table Quiz in Fay’s Bar on 23 November. Thanks to all who took part on the night; donated spot prizes for the raffle and gave generous contributions. The event was a great success and very enjoyable night was had by all. Thanks to Quiz Mistress Christine Lee and the administrative staff of the Information Office who organised the event. Your continued support is much appreciated.
I.C.A.: The monthly meeting of the guild will take place on this Thursday 6 December at 8.00pm in the Credit Union meeting room entrance at rear of building. Those members going on Christmas outing are requested to please bring a deposit to the meeting. The Christmas Supper will be served by the committee. All members are requested to attend.
Garden Club: The Christmas Garden Club meeting will take place on Monday 10 December at 8.00pm in Lus na Greine. All members are encouraged to please come along early.

Longford County Choir: The choir will perform a Christmas Celebration concert in St. Mel’s Cathedral Centre on Sunday 16 December at 7.00pm. All proceeds will be donated to the Longford Society of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Christopher’s Services Longford. Tickets are €12 each and are available at 087-6854876.

Set Dancing: Set Dancing classes for adults take place in Lus Na Greine FRC on Monday evenings at 8pm. Everyone welcome to come along and join in the fun - not to mention the great exercise.
2013 Calendars: The annual calendars produced by St. Christopher’s Services Longford are currently on sale in SuperValu and Londis Supermarkets Granard. Price €5 each. This calendar always makes a lovely present or stocking filler for Christmas.
AG Bingo: Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Proceeds to St. Mary’s GFC and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated.
Glotto Results: St. Mary’s GAA weekly lotto the numbers drawn were - 6 12 23 24. There was no outright winner. Congratulations to the winner of €30 each Seamus Flynn Cartron Granard; Aine Keogh, Dring and Conal Reilly Aughabrack Granard.
Citizens Information: An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Centre will be in attendance at the Granard Area Action Group Information Office Main Street Granard each Thursday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. This service is free and confidential. Fireside Tales No 10: Jude Flynn launched Volume 10 of his Fireside Tales series on 29 November in Longford Library. This is an extraordinary achievement for Jude and we congratulate him on another fine production with many stories relevant to the local area. Books are available in J. O’Donoghue’s Hardware Main Street Granard store priced at €20.00. This will make an ideal Christmas present for family and friends.
Book Launch: Congratulations to Maggie O’Brien who launched her new book of poems in Lus na Greine FRC Granard on Monday 3 December and in Longford Library this Wednesday 5 December. Maggie is a very popular tutor at the Adult Learning Centre in Granard.
Whist: Whist continues each Sunday night at the Community Centre Granard commencing at 8.30pm. New players are always most welcome.
Recent Death: The death of Owen McGerr Kilfintan Granard occurred at his residence on 26 November. His body reposed at the family home until removal to St. Mary’s Church Boherquill on Thursday evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his wife Anne sons Eugene and Pat daughters Mary Edel and Paula grandchildren in laws relatives and a wide circle of friends. May he rest in peace.
AGM: The John Dungan branch of the CCE will hold their AGM tomorrow evening, Thursday 6th at 7pm in Granard.
