BADMINTON:Badminton will take place in Saint Dominics Community Centre every Monday and Wednesday night from 9 to 10pm.New players always welcome.

DIGITAL TV: Please check that everyone you know especially your elderly family members and islolated neighbours are ready for the digital switchover as they won’t be left without TV after 24th October next. HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICES: In September and October the following harvest thanksgiving services will be held in the Ardagh “Church of Ireland” group of parishes to give thanks to almighty God for the great blessings of harvest time and for God’s unfailing providence throughout the years. Sunday September 30th in Tashinny Church at 3pm,Sunday October 14th in Kenagh Church at 3pm. There will be a guest preacher at each service which will be followed by tea in the hall. Everyone is welcome to the services and the refreshments. In the words of the well known Harvest Hymn ”Come ye thankful people come raise the song of harvest home”.

RURAL TRANSPORT:Door to door service continue in the general Kennagh region. All age groups are welcome to travel and the free travel pass is accepted. There are a number of spaces available so we would encourage people from that area to avail of the services to keep it activated in the region. Once weekly O/w service on Wednesdays to Longford is provided by Farrellys coaches phone 043 3322222. Once fortnightly O/f service is provided by Anthony O’Haire phone 087 9004876 which covers Portanure Polagh Newtowncashel into Ballymahon via Corlea to facilitate any passengers who wish to travel to Ballymahon. The once fortnightly service to Ballymahon on Friday has spaces available and does need support and a greater uptake. The service is flexible and demand response. CANAL NEWS: There will be a table quiz in Gav’s Bar Kenagh on Friday night October 12th at 9pm in aid of Foigha Kenagh Royal canal Group. All local clubs are invited to take part. Next meeting of the group will take place in the co/op centre on next Friday September 28th at 7.30pm.

DEATH: We offer sincere sympathy to the sister in law nephews nieces and all relatives and friends of Pat Connor formerly of Derrylough who died in Australia over the past week. Pat was in his ninety first year and had a good healthy life until very recently.Pat left his native Derrylough sixty two years ago when he went to England for a few years before he left for Australia where he settled and reared a family. He lived in the town of Ballarat near Melbourne where he worked for the electrical services until his retirement. Although he left here sixty years ago he kept very much in touch with his native heath and had weekly communication with his folks in Derralough and Derryveigh. He kept himself up to date with everything that went on in his native parish by reading all the local publications which were sent over by his family and relatives. He also read all the local papers and enjoyed many visits from his nephews and nieces. We send our sympathy to his wife Louis and his family . There will be a special mass to his memory in Saint Dominics Church Kenagh on this Friday evening at 8pm. May he rest in peace.

CROOKE:We also offer our sympathy to the Crooke family on the death of Pearl which occurred at the county hospital Roscommon on Saturday Sept 22nd.Pearl was wife of George no 15 the Green Lanesboro and formerly of Clough Kenagh. Pearl ner Scott was a very devoted wife and mother of her family.Along with being a good family person she was also a very active member of the Longford Society for prevention of cruelty to animals.She was very good natured and very caring towards animals and their welfare. She was predeceased by her sisters in law Ruth by just two weeks. She will be sadly missed by Janet her grandchildren,sisters in law Daphne Begly and Anna brother Walter brother in law Bill Farrell and extended family. She will be buried after service in Saint Johns Church Lanesboro at two O’clock on this Monday

HARVEST FESTIVAL: There will be a meeting of county Longford Harvest festival committee in Gav’s Bar on Tuesday night October 2nd at 9.30pm. Also there will be a presentation night in Gav’s Bar on Friday night October 19 at 9pm.Music by Colm Burke.

PROGRESSIVE TWENTY FIVE: Winners in Saint Dominics Centre last Tuesday night were Barney and Eugene 100 games win fifty euro,Packie and Bridie eight games win thirty euro. Table prizes Billy and William,Val and Pat win twenty euro. Raffle Val Mulvihill Betty Gerety Bridie Donlan Brendan Hanley,Berney Walshe Packie Feeney. They win ten euro each.

KDDA: There will be a table quiz in Gav’s Bar Kenagh on Friday night November 30th. The last meeting was held last Monday night where the members took some time to browse over the official results which were distributed to those present. No Doubt there is plenty of room for improvement despite 3 mark increases over last years. In the mean time they are appealing to all locals play their part in keeping the village and surrounding areas free of litter and unsightly objects especially along waterways and approach roads. All the landmarks like the two churches, clock tower school community centre and GAA pitch got good marking. Its now up to the private property owners.

COMMUITTY GAMES: Our AGM takes place on 2nd Oct at 9.30pm in the GAA meeting room. Anyone interested in helping out this year or taking a job on the committee are all welcome.

Longford community games: Will next year celebrate its 40th anniversary and hope to commemorate this with a ruby anniversary booklet.
