Young Priests Society
A meeting of St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society will take place on this Thursday 26 May at 8.00pm in the Community Centre Barrack Street Granard. All are welcome to attend.
The guild meeting will take place on Tuesday 7 June at 8.00pm in Streete Parish Park. Plans for Summer outing will be discussed. All are welcome.
The next meeting of Granard guild will take place on this Thursday 2 June at 8.00pm in the Credit Union Conference room. Guest speaker on the night will be Bridget Coston who will give a talk on Bee-Keeping. All are welcome.
The Mayor of Granard and the Town Council will honour Jody Sheridan as Granard Person of the Year this Friday night 3 June at 8.30pm in John V. Donohoe’s Lounge. Congratulations Jody.
The VTOS Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme is currently taking bookings. If you are aged 21 or over and either you or you spouse have been in receipt of welfare payments you have been signing for credits or you are a lone parent If son you could join the VTOS Programme and receive training Free of Charge to those who are eligible. This is an excellent course for people who are unemployed and who wish to retrain in order to return to the workforce.
At the request of Longford Co. Co. the Higginstown Community Group has been established to manage and maintain the Higginstown Sports Complex Granard. All interested groups were invited to form a committee to conduct these functions. The following officers were elected Chairman Andrew Gettings. Secretary Harold McGahern and Treasurer Ciaran Walsh. All these local organizations which historically have availed of these facilities have engaged and any others wishing to use them are invited to join. A calendar of events will be maintained and all organizations using the facilities will co-operate to equitably share the cost of maintenance. Hopefully this development will enhance the facility and the service to the locality.
Bingo takes place each Wednesday night at 9.00pm in the Community Centre Granard. The Jackpot is now at €8,000. Proceeds from the night go to Abbeylara and Granard GAA clubs. Your continued support is appreciated.
Rural Broadband Scheme
A public Information Evening will be held in Granard Community Centre on Thursday 2 June at 8.00pm. Anyone who does not have Broadband in the North Longford region is invited to attend. A Representative of Midland Regional Authority who are promoting this project on behalf of the Department of Communications Energy and Natural Resources. Information and Application forms will be available on the night. It is imperative that everyone who does not have Broadband service attends. This information evening is being co-ordinated by Cllr. Michéal Carrigy a member of Midland Regional Authority.
The selection of readings for the Book Club until we meet up again on Wednesday 15 June are “Saints and Sinners” by Edna O’Brien. “Room” by Emma Donoghue, “Where’s your Mama Gone” by Kay O’Gorman and “Jack and Jill” by James Patterson one of our quick reads that is available from a great selection of wonderful writers.
This year is a very special occasion for Sr Maeve and Rath Mhuire Resource Centre as it marks the 25th anniversary of the Centre. The Moatsiders Active Age group will met on this Thursday 2 June at 2.30pm. New members are always warmly welcomed.
Men’s Social Club
Granard Men’s Social Club congratulate one of their most active members Jody Sheridan who is to be honoured as Granard Person of the Year. The next meeting of the group will take place on Tuesday 7 June in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre at 12 noon. Takes place this Sunday 5 June at 10.30am. Grave owners are requested to tidy up their burial plots before the occasion. There will be a BBQ in Watty’s Rock in the village that afternoon for Parish Funds. Please support.

Pitch & Putt
Evening competitions take place on Wednesdays at 7.00pm sharp and everyone is welcome. Anybody who would require coaching lessons can contact Roy Burke on 087-6636838 these are free of charge.
