CLEAN UP DAY
Gowna Development Association and tidy towns have arranged a clean up day on Saturday 4th June at 3pm. Those participating will meet at the village cross. Please bring hi-viz and grabbers. Everyone from far and near both young and old are welcome to contribute to this clean up, an appeal is being made to all householders and businesses in the village and surrounding area to maintain their property to high standard for the duration of the tidy towns adjudication period which will commence on the first of June and finish early September. With your continued effort we would hope to achieve first place in 2011. The committee would like to extend thanks to those who contributed and supported this competition in previous years.
Sympathy is extended to the nieces relatives and friends of Fr Augustin White Castlepollard and formerly of Loch Gowna who died peacefully in Maple Court Nursing home Castlepollard on Saturday 14th May. Fr Augustin on his retirement from a parish in Nottingham England resided in Castlepollard. His remains were removed to St Michaels Church Castlepollard and following requiem Mass on Monday burial took place in St Michael’s Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
DRING OPEN AIR FESTIVAL
The annual open air festival in aid of St Christophers school Longford will take place this Sunday 5th June at Dring car park. Your support would be much appreciated.
On Sunday 22nd May 2011 was a special day for the children of Gowna and Cortober school when the received their first holy communion in the church of the holy family Loch Gowna from Fr PJ Fitzpatrick who celebrated the mass . Refreshments were provided to the children and their families in the community centre afterwards. We congratulate the following children on their special occasion. 3 DAY TOUR
Our annual 3 day Summer Tour to Westport Co Mayo will take place on Tuesday 5th July and return on Thursday 7th July. MRS MAURA MCCABE
It was with deep regret that we learnt of the death of Mrs Maura McCabe (nee Lynch) Knockaughey Corlesmore Co Cavan on Monday 16th May peacefully at her home. Predeceased by her husband Michael in 2005 and infant son Michael Gerard. Maura was a member of Loch Gowna senior citizen club for many years. She was an extremely kind and friendly person who will be sadly missed by every one who had the pleasure of knowing her and especially by her sons Martin Declan Seamus Gabriel and Dermot, daughters Rose Mary Bernadette and Helen. Brothers sisters brothers in law,sisters in law, sons in law, daughters in law nephews nieces grandchildren relatives and friends to who we offer our deepest sympathy. Her remains were removed from her residence on Tuesday evening to the church of the Holy Family Loch Gowna and following requiem Mass on Wednesday morning at 11am burial took place in adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.
