The teachers and children of St Mary’s National School were delighted with the turn out of parents to view their art on exhibition in Rathowen Community Centre last Friday 27th May. The art exhibition was opened by our local artist and gallery owner Lorraine O’Brien, who commented that the level of the art on display was very high and she congratulated the children on their amazing work. The pictures were all finished and professionally framed and catalogued for display in the Community centre, and all were available to buy. Well done to teachers and pupils on their hard work and wonderful day!!!

WHITE COLLAR BOXING

There was blood, sweat and tears in the Fiddlers Green pub on Saturday 28th May when members of the local village took to the ring to raise money for the Boherquill Church renovations and Streete Tidy Towns. The local lads and lassies did ten weeks of intensive training in Ballinagore Boxing club. This was Streete’s first ever boxing event and it was a very enjoyable night. A full size boxing ring was set up in the car park of the Fiddlers Green pub with a live feed running to the t.v. inside in the pub. A huge crowd was there to support the 18 boxers, 16 male and 2 females. The crowd was promised an excellent night’s entertainment and they got it and more. The boxers all did a series of three-round bouts and they might have been friends outside the ring but inside they gave it their all. You could see that these fighters put in all those weeks training and more into the fight and the crowd roared them on in support.Caroline Lambden, Streete Tidy towns commented that ‘we are extremely grateful to all who took part and for the sacrifice and commitments they have made, this is a unique way for local lads to contribute voluntarily to their local community. This is a vital fundraiser for our committee and we would like to thank all who supported this night and made it possible.

Training this month will be in Bunbrosna every Thursday evening from 7-8 unless stated in text alerts. The U8’s blitz held in Shandonagh on Friday last with one game won out of the two played well done all. Hard luck last Tuesday when the U10’s went up against Delvin.
