Harvest Festival

The annual harvest festival in aid of the Ballymachugh community will take place next weekend. Commencing at 10pm on Saturday night, September 5th with a barn dance & Barbeque in Buddy Kiernan’s pub, music by the ever popular Chuck & June. Next morning there will be the four counties tractor run leaving Finea at 12 noon. Upon their return a Barbeque and live music will be held in Fitzsimon’s Bar. All welcome.

Trip to Knock

The annual pilgrimage to Knock for the Ardagh Clonmacnois diocese will take place on Sun next. Bus leaving Ballyheelan at 9.35am and Carrick at 9.50am. Tickets available from Clarke’s filling station, Finea.

Schools re-open

All of the schools in the locality have now re-opened following the summer holidays. We extend good luck and every success to the pupils who have commenced their secondary education from the area. For Cian Fitzsimons, Finea village and Clodagh Hennessy, Castletown, Monday last was certainly a “big day” in their young lives as they commenced their primary education at St Mary’s NS, Finea and St Michaels NS, Castletown respectively - we wish them well and hope they will have a bright academic year.
