Community Development Meeting

There is an important community development meeting in the local community centre on this Friday, 6th February at 8.30p.m. Items up for discussion include cutting of trees in the village, interest in setting up a playground committee, tidy town and community scheme business and upcoming hunt fundraiser. If you have any views on any of the above or if you wish to get involved it is important that you attend the meeting. The development group was formed after the village plan was drawn up and over the past few years have been involved in the development of the community walkway in conjunction with the local GAA club which is now completed and lit up for use by the community nightly. It also set up the community text alert scheme, prepares for the annual Tidy Towns competition, oversees and funds the community schemes and had made various other improvements throughout the village. The work is ongoing and your support and attendance would be appreciated.

Hunt Fundraiser

Longford Harriers are kindly planning another hunt in Mullinalaghta on Saturday, 21st February in conjunction with Mullinalaghta Community Development. This has been a very successful venture for the past few years and we are hoping for local support again this year. The landowners will be consulted in the next week or so to seek their kind permission again to access their lands. Preparation and plans for setting up the course, refreshments etc will be discussed at the development meeting on Friday 6th February at 8.30pm for anyone interested in helping out.

Holy Hour

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with the Rosary takes place in St. Columba’s Church each Thursday evening from 8pm - 9pm. All are welcome.

Lotto Draw

St. Columba’s G.F.C held their weekly lotto draw on Thursday 29th January. The numbers drawn were 6, 25, 26, 29 with the jackpot of €6,900 remaining intact. Consolation prizes of €20 went to Martin McGovern, Larkfield. J.J. Matthews, Toome. Bernie McElligott, Toome. Eamonn Drake, CA\arrickduff and John & Marie Matthews, Toome. On sales for this week are as follows. Hideaway: Aaron Earley. Kilcogy : Myles Matthews & Ruairi McElligott. Keogh’s / Anglers’s Rest: Eric Sullivan. Please drop tickets into Cloonagh P.O before 5.30pm on Monday.

Ladies Footballers

As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in the local post office or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday night’s main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are now due for renewal at €50 each by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. The winning number on Saturday 31st January was 45 with no winner.

Bereavement

The sympathy of the community is extended to Mary Anne Mooney, Leitrim on the death of her brother John Gibney, Legwee, Loughduff. Ill for some time he was an obliging neighbour and popular with his neighbours. Our condolences are also extended to his wife Kathy, son Sean, daughters Aine and Kathleen, sister Elizabeth ‘’ Cissy’ Briody. daughter-in-law Paula, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. May he rest in peace.

New Arrival

Congratulations are extended to Enda and Jacinta Mulfaul, Toome on the birth of their third child, a baby girl to be named Áine and a welcome brother for Michael and Finn. The happy event took place at Cavan General Hospital on Wednesday, 28th January. We are delighted to report that Jacinta and newborn are in excellent form and are back home in the cosy surroundings of Toome.
