Easter Half Marathon
Following on from last year’s very successful inaugural event, Ringtown Hurling Club are once again hosting a Half Marathon and 10K Run on Easter Monday, April 6th, 2015. The event will start from Ringtown GAA Centre, Whitehall, Castlepollard, and there will be refreshments and shower facilities after the event. The 10K event will sgtart at 11.00am, and the Half Marathon will start at 11.15am. Entry fees are 15.00 euro for the 10K,and 30.00 euro for the Half Marathon. The late Sean Regan The local and North Westmeath community, and wider afield, were saddened to learn of the death, which took place peacefully at his residence on Monday, January 26th, 2015, of Mr. John Francis (Sean) Regan, Bratty Road, Castlepollard. The remains reposed at his residence from 3.00pm Wednesday, January 28th, until removal to St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, arriving at 7.00pm. The funeral took place following concelebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday, January 29th, at 11.00am, and internment took place afterwards to St. Michael’s Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Sean, as he was known locally, was a native of Eniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, and was the last surviving member of an old respected and large farming family. He had been predeceased by his beloved wife Kathleen, and was devoted to his family. He was a keen card player, poker particularly, and an active supporter of Ballycamoyle GFC, as well as a supporter of all Gaelic games. Sean was actively interested in Church matters locally, nationally and internationally. He will be sadly missed not alone by his immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The deceased is survived by his son John, daughter-in-law Phil, granddaughters Maire and Una, great-granddaughter Ella, nephews, nieces, other relatives and wide circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
5k fun run/walk Next Sunday, February 8th, will see Castlepollard Celtic hosting a 5K Family Run and Walk starting at 1.00pm from The square, heading out the Collinstown road, and looping back to the town through Loughpark to finish on the Square once again. Registration will take place in Hotel Castlepollard from 11.30am, and entry fees are 10.00 euro per adult, 5.00 euro per child, and 20.00 euro for family entries. Table quiz A Table Quiz organised by Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall GAA club will take place in Hotel Castlepollard on Friday night next, February 6th. Quizmaster on the night will be Willie Geraghty, and all are welcome.
Clothing Collection An Umbra Clothing collection will take place in the Parish Community Centre, car park, Church Street, Castlepollard, on Friday next, February 6th, before 12.00 noon. Please do not leave clothes in the car park after 12.00 noon.

The remains reposed at his residence on Thursday, January 29th, from 11.00am until 6.00pm, and then removal at 6.30pm to St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, arriving at 7.00pm. The funeral took place following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Michael’s Church on Friday, January 30th at 12.00 noon, and internment took place afterwards to St. Michael’s Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Michael was a member of an old respected family. A noted historian and genealogist, Michael had a keen interest in parish and church affairs, and had been involved in amateur dramatics, Rehab and Civil Defence. A fluent Irish speaker, Michael believed in nurturing use of the language and every opportunity. A devoted family man, he will be sadlu missed not alone by his immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Predeceased by his sons Ronan and Myles, Michael is survived by his living wife Grainne, sons Peadar, Michael and Tim, daughters Eidhne, Maire, and Una and Grainne, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, sisters Patricia and Martha, grandchildren Gerard, Roisin, Brian, Aisling, Saoirse, Michael, Oisin, Aine, Ronan, Cian, Liam, Grainne, Cara, Fionan, great-grandchildren, other relatives and wide circle of friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
Birthday greetings We extend congratulations and very best wishes to Fionnuala McGahern, (nee Nea) who celebrated her 40th birthday recently with a party for family, relatives and friends in the Town & Country pub, The Square, Castlepollard. Joining her on the night were husband Martin, son Cian and daughter Ciara.
