Text alert

Gowna Community Text Alert Scheme has proven very beneficial in the prevention of crime in this area in the past year. It is important that we keep our level of vigilance as high as possible at all times and to do this we request all members who wish to join for another year to please leave your name, address and 5 euro in an envelope at the post office as soon as possible.


Bingo returns to St Patrick’s Hall, Arva on Sunday next, 1st February with over 3,500 euro on offer each night. Game starts at 8.30pm.


Sympathy is extended to Mrs Elizabeth Briody, Aughavains, Loch Gowna on the death of her brother, John Gibney, Legwee, Loughduff which occurred on Sunday, 25th January at Cavan General Hospital. Also sympathy to John’s wife Kathy, son Sean, daughters Aine and Kathleen, sister Mrs Mary Ann Mooney, Leitrim Dring, daughter in law Paula, brothers in law, sisters in law, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. His remains were removed from his residence on Tuesday evening to St Joseph’s Church, Loughduff and following funeral mass on Wednesday burial took place in adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Loch Gowna Credit Union sub office open for business every Saturday evening from 6-7.30pm.

Fishing competition

North Longford Angling club are holding a boat pike fishing competition on Sunday 8th February on Annagh Lake. Fishing from 11am – 4pm. Entries will be taken at the car park. Everyone welcome.

25 card game

25 card game takes place every Tuesday night in St Brigid’s Community Centre at 8pm. New players very welcome.

Results of the Bernard O’Reilly Memorial fishing competition held on Derries Lake on Sunday, 25th January. 1st Marty Cosworth, Dring; 2nd Joe McDermott, Longford; 3rd Terry Brennan, Cortober, Arva; 4th Kerrie Le,e Dring; 5th Tony McManus, Loughduff. 15 boats participated.
