Tidy Towns results
Abbeylara were up 12 points on last year, bringing us up to a total 250 marks. Abbeylara Tidy Towns committee would like to thank the local community and the pupils of St. Bernard’s National School for their ongoing input during the year. We would also like to thank our sponsors and anyone who helped in any way, especially the Community Employment workers and TUS worker. St. Bernard’s Church, the Parish Centre, approach roads and the Handball Alleys were all admired for the lovely stone work. The old village sign on the Lisryan road and the walkway at Derragh Lake all got a mention. The pupils and teachers of St. Bernard’s N/S. also got a mention for their wonderful work and great interest in the Junior Section of Tidy Towns. We would like to thank the pupils who came out on numerous occasions to help with the litter pickup. One area we lost 20 points was the painting of gates on approaching roads to our village. We pointed out this in our News Bulletins in the Spring but it fell on deaf ears, maybe next year! The full results sheet is available in P. J. Farrell’s shop, or from committee members.
