There was plenty of activity around the Killadoon area at the weekend as two local fundraisers got under way. On Saturday morning there was a good turnout of all ages for the Drominsin hill walk in aid of the Jack & Jill foundation. On Sunday morning it was the turn of Cavan Autism cycle when enthusiasts from near and far started from the Parochial in two stages. The ideal weather was an added bonus and the organisers of both charities say a big thank you to all who took part and helped out in any way.
The weekend of 6th – 8th September was a busy one in the parish starting off with a get-together of the Drama & Variety Group in the Parochial hall on Saturday night. Following a showing of their recent 2014 show and other entertainment presentations were made to various organisations in the parish. Included were; the Kidney Dialysis Unit Cavan General hospital, Apostolic Society, Positive Age, Mullahoran Comhaltas, Ladies Football, Mullahoran GFC, Mullahoran school, St. Vincent De Paul, Parochial hall and Community Games. Each organisation benefited from the proceeds of the shows produced over the past years in appreciation of the support given to the local Drama & variety Group.
On Sunday evening the local branch of Comhaltas hosted an open music session in the Parochial hall when over sixty musicians, singers and dancers performed. Over two hours of non-stop entertainment was provided to a large appreciative audience by this talented group aged from 4 to 18 years which included several members of some families. The next session will be held in the Parochial this coming Friday evening from 7.30 to 9.30pm and all are welcome to witness this amazing performance.
Ceol & Craic
On Monday night 8th, a Ceol & Craic night was held in Micsin’s, Kilcogy. This was a fund-raiser to help in publication of Felix Halton’s book of poetry which will be available later in the year. A capacity crowd was entertained with a feast of music, song and story-telling and was attended by visitors from the U.S., Canada, U.K., Scotland and Australia. The high-light of the night was the showing of some video coverage of the man himself Felix followed by several recitations of his wonderful compositions. M.C. on the night was Con Halton who kept the top class entertainment flowing. This was an unforgettable night and it is hoped to make this an annual event.
