On Saturday, 5th July last, St. Columba’s Church was the venue for the wedding of Lizze Donohoe, daughter of Jimmie and Lilly Donohoe, Derrycassin and Dromard native, Barry Kiernan. The ceremony was performed by Fr. Simon Cadam assisted by Fr. P.J. Fitzpatrick. Lizzie’s chief bridesmaid was her sister Caroline Earley who was assisted by another sister Maggie Reilly and friends Linda Kiernan and Caroline Doyle. Best man was Kevin Donohoe and groomsmen were Raymond Kiernan, Sean Kiernan and Oliver Kiernan. The beautiful little flowergirl was Aoibhinn Kiernan with Oran Macken and James Reilly being very able pageboys. Bernard Donohoe and Marise Macken took care of the readings. The prayers of the faithful were recited by Damien Donohoe, Leanne Earley, Michael Donohoe, Lisa McGovern, Aaron Earley and Mary Sullivan. The gifts at the altar were presented by Lilly Donohoe and Marie Kiernan. The reflection was given by Denise ‘O Connor Brady. Sacred music for the occasion was by Mel and Helena Crowe. Following the ceremony and Mass, the wedding party and guests travelled to the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon where they were treated to a delicious meal and a great evening’s entertainment at its best. On behalf of their many friends and acquaintances, we wish Lizzie and Barry many years of good health and happiness together.
The County Longford Track and Field finals took place recently in Ballymahon. We were represented in all competitions. The weekend started off on the Saturday with the field events. Conor Leonard got things underway for us in the long puck event. In what was an excellent performance, Conor took gold winning by six metres. Our next representative was Conor’s sister Aoife in the throw ball competition. This was a much closer affair. Nevertheless, Aoife earned herself gold having 0.6 metres to spare at the end. On Sunday, the track events took place. All the children did well. Unfortunately, only Rachel Gillian was in the running for a medal taking gold in the U16 100 metres race. Our U-16 girls relay team of Rachel Gillian, Shannon O’Reilly, Shannon McEntire and Carmel McGivney came away with silver having been pipped very narrowly at the line following a very close encounter. We compliment all participants on doing their parish proud over the weekend. We wish Conor, Aoife and Rachel well at the All Ireland Finals in August.
