Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Monday, 30th June. Jackpot €6,350-00 – Numbers drawn 2 /3 / 18 / 23 – No winner. €50 each – Brendan O’ Malley, Michael Ellis, Drumalt, Julie & Janice Sheridan, Hollybank. The Jackpot on Monday night last 7th July was €6,400. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. Contact any club officer or check out the club website Reserve Championship: Arva played Killinkere in the second round of the Division 2 Reserve Championship in Michael Cully Park on Saturday evening last where the visitors had an 8 point victory – 3-11 to 1-9. The writing was on the wall from the very start as Killinkere had the ball in the Arva net inside 20 seconds while they added another in the 12th minute with points either side of the goal. Arva pointed in the 10th minute through Conor Mc Entee and he added another in the 14th minute. We had no score until the home side added 2 more points through Ciaran Cooney (23 min), and Mc Entee (25 min). Mc Entee lifted the home supporters when he hit the net in the 26th minute while Cooney pointed either side of the visitors scoring in the 28th & 31st minutes to leave the half time score Killinkere 2-4 Arva 1-5. Danny Conneely had the first score of the second half when he converted a free in the 35th minute but in a sustained period of dominance the visitors scored 1-4 in the next 6 minutes and while the home side battled to the finish they could not get the scores to match their efforts. Points from Cooney (48 min), Paul Brady (49 min) and Mc Entee (52 min) was all Arva could manage while the visitors cancelled out these scores with 3 points in the remaining minutes. The Cavan Senior team play Roscommon on this Saturday in Kingspan Breffni Park in the All Ireland Qualifier and it should be the perfect game for the Cavan players to get revenge for their defeat in the Division 3 League Final. Supporters should get to the Park early and give the players their full support.

Monster Bingo continues in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva each Sunday night with a good attendance. With over €3,150-00 on offer each night (€1,000 on page 9) it is one of the best sessions around. Only 3 nights left !! Eyes down at 9pm.

Show meeting

Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting this Thursday, 10th July at 9pm in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva. All members please attend, new members welcome. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, 27th July with all the usual classes for animals, home crafts, Farm & Garden produce, Dog Show, etc, etc. The Prize list is available and we urge everyone that is in a position to do so to please enter some exhibits and assist the committee in keeping this great tradition alive. The Show Dance that night will have music by Mike Denver and his Band in the Breffni Arms Hotel which should attract a large attendance. Denver is one of the top attractions on the country music circuit and has a top class band.

Water Safety

The annual two week course in Swimming and Water Safety on Gartylough Lake, Arva will conclude this Friday having been a tremendous success. The beautiful weather really added to the occasion as the scene resembled something we only see on foreign holidays. Great credit to all the parents who brought the younger children along as it is so important that everyone has basic swimming instruction.

Breffni 20K

The annual Breffni 20K Challenge will take place this year on Saturday, 2nd August with the proceeds going as usual to St Luke’s Hospital for Cancer Cure, Care and Control, N.B.C.R.I. (National Breast Cancer Research Institute), and Cavan Cancer Homecare. Over the past years, close to 1 million euro has been raised for these Charities and the organisers are looking forward to another successful event. Get your sponsorship cards in the usual outlets and make a special effort to help these very worthy charities.

Slimming World

The Arvagh 3 Province Festival will take place this year from July 26th to August 4th. Highlights include the Wet, Wild ‘n’ Wacky Raft Race, Arvagh Busking competition, Big Generator and much, much more! Golf outing on this Saturday, 12th July in McSeain’s Golf, Cornafean. Call 086 271 9132 to book tee times. The Festival was launched in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva on Friday night last with a great attendance. Speakers were Philip Brady, Cormac O’Donnell, Raymond Brady and Nicholas O’Hara while newly elected Councillor Winston Bennett was present. Councillor Philip Brady was unable to attend and sent his apologies. After the success of last year’s event, this year is being looked forward to with enthusiasm. It really is an action packed week and not to be missed.

Rosie Run

The annual Rosie 5K Run/Walk will take place in Lough Gowna on Sunday, 20th July in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. The cost is €10-00 per adult with children €5-00. Anyone wishing to make a donation should contact 086 3582 788 / 087 6622 483. Registration starts at 11.30 am with the run getting underway at 1pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Get your walking boots on and support a worthy cause.


A social evening will be held in Michael Dolan’s Lounge, Aughnacliffe in aid of St Thomas Church Columbkille, Restoration Fund and the Dialysis Unit, Cavan General Hospital on Saturday of next week 19th July. Music will be by “One Night Only” with dancing from 10.00 pm to 12.30 am with a raffle and refreshments served. There will also be an auction for a Leinster Rugby Jersey signed by the wining team, a load of firewood donated by Hall Transport, Aughnacliffe, A Longford Town Soccer ball. Voluntary donations will be gladly accepted and all support very much appreciated.
