Padraig Potts’ Guide to Walking
Big Guerilla Productions present a one-man play called ‘Padraig Potts’ Guide to Walking’, written and performed by Seamus O’Rourke and directed by Charles McGuinness in the Corn Mill Theatre, Carrigallen on Friday, 11 July at 8:30pm, doors open at 8:00pm. The play follows the life of Padraig Potts McKiernan, from growing up near the tiny rural village of Drumnamee, County Leitrim in the 70’s and 80’s to falling in love with Silvia Lang, a perfect protestant girl, to marrying Mary Tague, the priests housekeeper, who he never really liked and eventually to the realisation that the world isn’t as big as he first thought. This is a story full of Nostalgia, Innocence, Olympic standard sex and Holy Water Salad dressing. Setting for the play is provided by Noel Nash and Lighting design by Philip McIntyre. The Thunder Rolls Garth Brooks Charity Concert for one night only on Saturday, 19 July 2014 at the Marquee, Mitchell’s Bar, Carrigallen starting at 9:00pm. All proceeds in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Cavan and Cancer Research Ireland.
Bredagh Old School Barbecue
A very successful barbecue was held at Bredagh Old School recently. Mervyn Richardson, on behalf of the Committee thanked all those present, those who gave subscriptions, to all who helped out in any way and he informed the extra large crowd that it was going to be an annual event from now on.
G.F.C. Lotto The draw was held on Saturday, 5 July 2014 and the numbers drawn on the night were 3, 15, 19, and 24. There was no Jackpot winner and the four winners of €50 each were Jimmy & Dympna Morrow, Pauline McGurk, Gretta O’Neill (14 Club), and Dympna Morrow (14 Club). Next week’s draw will be held in MJ’s Pub on 12 July when the Jackpot will be €12,500. Those in charge on the night are Teresa Donohoe, Barry Dolan and Conor O’Neill.
The annual Art exhibition will take place in Teach Dúchais, Drumeela on Friday, 11 July at 8:30pm. The exhibition will be opened by Mr Ted Crompton, artist, who will speak on the subject of painting in water colours. There will also be a music recital on the night featuring piano, harp, violin, and singing. Refreshments will be served. Everybody welcome! A special welcome goes to the Transition Year students from Carrigallen Vocational School who is invited to exhibit their work at this exhibition. Works of Art in any medium are welcome for display and will be taken into Teach Dúchais on Thursday, 10 July between 6:00pm and 9:00pm. There will be an Outdoor Painting Workshop on Saturday, 12 July with assembly at Teach Dúchais at 10:30am. Workshop will be held indoors if weather is wet. Diocesan Triduum of Prayer
Diocesan Triduum of Prayer to mark the year of the Holy Name of Jesus on Friday 11, Saturday 12, and Sunday 13 July 2014 in St. Mary’s Church, Staghall, Belturbet, Co Cavan. Fr. Liam McCarthy OFM from the Franciscan Community in Galway will be the preacher for the three days. Mass will be on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00p.m. Bishop Leo O’Reilly will be the principal celebrant of the Sunday morning Mass at 11:30am. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Saturday from 11:00am to 12 noon and 7:00pm to 7:45pm. 2014 is the Year of the Holy Name of Jesus in Ireland for the Franciscans and the Poor Clare Federation and the wider Franciscan family. The aim of the Year is simple – to foster a renewed reverence and devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, and in so doing to deepen personal love for the Lord Jesus and faithfulness to His Gospel among all people.
