The recent Ballymahon Defibrillator Open Day proved to be unsuccessful as there was an extremely poor turnout on the day. With training equipment and four Instructors present on the day it was very disappointing to say the least. There are life-saving Defibrillators in Ballymahon and the surrounding areas. Do you know how to use them in a life and death situation? Do you know C.P.R.? If you don’t or if you trained in the past you need to re-certify. So please get in touch with Liam at 086-8444640 or Edel at 087-7928156 after 6pm for further details.

Death of Bridget Walsh
It was with deep regret that we learnt of the death on 10th February of Mrs Bridget Walsh, (nee Higgins), Terlicken and formerly from Ardohill, Ballymahon, at Autumn Lodge, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Longford. Bridget was born in 1935 and was pre-deceased by her son P.J. and her husband Joe, who coincidentally died six years ago, also on February 10th. Herself and Joe were married for over 50 years and raised a fine family, nothing pleased her more than to see them call and as the years went by, also her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was very proud of them all. Bridget will be remembered by everyone for her lovely smile, her kind and generous nature, her great sense of humour and dare we say, for her gorgeous brown bread. She frequently supplied her family and friends with that brown bread, she wouldn’t give away her secret recipe though. Her door was always open to visiting neighbours and they say that Bridget has been buying Ireland’s Own magazine every single week for the last 40 years, she loved working out the puzzles in it and reading the short stories. A lady of deep religious faith, Bridget liked her knitting and sewing and was a dab hand at playing cards. She often won her Christmas Turkey and Ham while playing cards in Leavy’s pub in Foigha, they called her ‘The Shark’ there which of course amused her. Bridget loved to listen to music, when her husband Joe was alive, they used to go over to the pub in Barry where Joe would play the Accordian with the locals, he was a great player. Down the years you would often see Bridget cycling her bicycle around the place, she always loved the outdoors. A huge number of people attended the removal of Bridget’s remains from St. Joseph’s Hospital Chapel to St. Matthews Church in Ballymahon and again on Wednesday morning last at her Funeral Mass, she was laid to rest at Kilcommock Cemetery. It bore testiment to the respect which has always been held by the local people for Bridget and her family. Our sincere sympathy is extended to her sons Jodi, Ned, Tom, Dermot and Martin and daughter Mary (Jordan), son-in-law, daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and to all her relatives and many friends. May God grant rest to her dear soul.
There are still a few places available at the Accord pre-marriage courses which take place on 10th and 13th March and also on the 4th and 5th April at the Family Centre in Longford. If you are planning to get married in 2014 please contact ACCORD at 04333-47222 Monday to Friday from 11.30a.m. to 1.30p.m. or book online at www.accord.ie
