Congratulations to Liam Fagan and Rachel Gilligan who represented Abbeylara/Mullinalaughta in the Community Games National Athletics Finals weekend held in Athlone recently. Rachel competed in the u14 100m sprint event and did extremely well winning her heat and only narrowly missing out on a final spot. Liam competed in the u10 Hurdles and put in a great performance but unfortunately missed out on a final spot. Well done to both Rachel and Liam who were fantastic competitors and represented their area extremely well and no doubt we will be hearing more about these athletes in the future.
The Annual General Meeting of the Abbeylara/Mullinalaughta Community Games will be held on Sunday October 13 at 9pm in Abbeylara Handball Alley. We urgently need parents to come on board this year to help with the organisation of the games and keep our community games movement active going forward. We hope to see a good attendance on the night.

Childcare Committee Tus Nua project are holding a FREE Play Day for families with young children in the Granard Area tomorrow, Thursday 3 October from 10.00am to 1.00pm in Lus Na Greine, Main Street Granard. Granard Country Markets continue in the Community Centre every Friday morning from 8.30am to 11.00am and as winter approaches the firewood is back in stock along with the usual Breads, Jams, Eggs and Crafts.
In an effort to raise finance and in order to ensure that Granard will have Christmas lights for the streets of the town during the festive season a Fundraising night will be held in the Bay Horse on Saturday 26 October. There will be music and a fancy dress on the night with prizes of €500, €300 and €200. There will also be other various Spot prizes on the night. Tickets are on sale at €5 each or a book of 20 for €100 in various shops and from committee members. A great night’s entertainment and laughter is guaranteed!!
