Our smiling barman leaves us

Our smiling barman leaves us

There was an air of sadness and disbelief in the area over the weekend as news spread about the sudden and untimely death of 45 year old Albert Fahy, son of Joe and Bridget at his home in Leo Casey Tce., Ballymahon on Thursday morning last. He will be sadly missed around the town by his family and so many friends. He had an infectious smile and great humour. Albert worked in London for a while, also in Eamon Farrell’s Town & Country Pub, Longford, with his late uncle Frank in The Covert in Ballinafid and in latter years with Tommy & Breege Murray at The River Inn, Ballymahon where he got on with all the customers, he had a word for everyone and was very professional in his work, himself and Tommy and Breege had a great relationship. He had a great love of everything to do with nature, he spent a lot of his spare time fishing on the river Inny and had actually planned on going on a fishing trip to the Moy river over in Co Mayo this week with two of his best friends. Albert had a great passion for sport, he played with Ballymahon GA.A. and also Forgney club some years back and was also a player with Ballymahon’s Red Devil soccer team with his brothers. The club where his father managed many teams over the years and was very much involved in the Club’s activities. Apart from loving the Blue and Gold of Longford and being a supporter of the Dubs, Albert was a huge fan of the reds of Liverpool. I believe Albert was also a great cook, he loved trying out his culinary skills on his much-appreciated family. A minutes silence was held at the All-Ireland Final on Saturday evening for Albert, brother of Derek, well-known Inter County Referree. Hundreds of people called to the Fahy home over the last few days on hearing of the sad death, testimony to the respect which is held for them in the area. St. Matthews Church also overflowed on Sunday morning at the Funeral Mass which was celebrated by a good friend of the family, Fr. Joe McGrath, assisted by Fr. Padraig, Ballymahon. The beautiful music and singing in the Church was performed by the Kavanagh family, Ballymahon, they also sang one of Albert’s favourite song “Raglan road” at the graveside in Shrule, he’d have enjoyed that. We extend our sincere sympathy and support to Albert’s heartbroken family and friends, to his parents Joe and Bridget, brothers Dessie, Pat, Derek, Mark and Joey, sister Sonia, Godchild Cara, aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends. May God grant rest to his Soul.
