The monthly meeting of Granard I.C.A. will take place on this Thursday 3 October 2013 at 8.00pm in the Credit Union meeting room. A “Bring and Buy” will be held on the night so don’t forget to bring the goods. New members are always very welcome.
Walk in Derrycasson
A guided walk with Mr Pat Brady from Coillte will take place in Derrycasson Wood on Thursday 10 October (weather permitting) at 2.30pm. This will be a very interesting event and everyone is welcome to come along and hear of the history of the area; the trees; flowers and fauna. Please remember to wear suitable footwear.
As part of the 125th celebrations of St. Mary’s GAA the club is holding a Table Quiz on this Friday 4 October, in Fay’s Bar. Tables of 4 - €40 euro. Throw in at 9.00pm. Come along and enjoy a good night’s entertainment.

Collins 21 Society
On 18 October at 8.00pm a special event will take place in The Greville Arms Hotel Granard when various guest speakers of note will deliver lectures on the life of Michael Collins and the Kiernan / Granard connection. There will also be an exhibition of memorabilia and letters written by Collins. Further details next week.
Granard Country Markets continue in the Community Centre Barrack Street Granard every Friday morning from 8.30am to 11am. As Winter now approaches the fire wood is back in stock along with the usual supply of Breads; Cakes; Jams; Free Range Eggs and Crafts.
An information officer from Co. Longford Citizen’s Information Service will be in attendance at Granard Area Action Information Office Main Street every Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The Library due to refurbishment of the building has relocated to Rath Mhuire Resource Centre at the Community Centre Barrack Street Granard and is open every Friday from 10am to 5pm.

Temple Street Hospital
A very Big Thank You to all who turned out in Abbeylara on Saturday Night to support Temple Street Children’s Hospital and Team Feely as they prepare for the 2013 Temple Street 4 x 4 Challenge. On this Friday 4 October the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi the insignia of the new Bishop, ring, mitre, pectoral cross and crosier will be blessed during the 7.30 p.m. Mass at the Cathedral Centre at St. Mel’s College. Anyone who wishes to attend this Mass will be most welcome. The Ordination of Fr. Francis Duffy as Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois takes place on Sunday 6 October in St. Mary’s Church, Athlone at 3p.m.

Clare for a 3 night stay on Tuesday 1 October – Thursday 3 October. We hope everybody has an enjoyable time. Our next meeting date in Rath Mhuire Centre will be 17 October at 2.30pm. Granard Men’s Social Club: Our first date for September coincided with the Garda Band performance in the Canon Kelly Sports Hall and all had a most enjoyable afternoon. Our club provides members with a forum to avail of a range of relevant informational topics, as well as the opportunity to engage in many community and social activities, with the added bonus of good company and good food. Information Workshop on Volunteering
The Volunteer Centre in Longford will be hold a Volunteer Information Outreach Service in Rath Mhuire Centre over the next couple of weeks, commencing on Monday 7 October at 11am. This is a good opportunity for non profit organisations to discuss their volunteering needs with a staff member from Longford Volunteer Centre and use their free placement and advertising service to recruit new volunteers.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre Granard at 8.45pm. This week’s Jackpot is €12,400. Sincere thanks to everyone who supports this fundraising activity. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s G.F.C.
Congratulations to Catriona Kelly Shannon Park Edgeworthstown Co. Longford daughter of Francis and Bernadette Granard who celebrated her 21st Birthday recently with a party for family and friends.
Sympathy is extended to Helen Kelly and family Ballymaurice Granard on the untimely death of her sister Veronica Burke Cloonfree Strokestown who died unexpectedly on 21 September. Veronica is also survived by her husband Pat son Michael daughter Jackie grandchildren and extended family. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday last followed by burial. May she rest in peace.
