Transition Year students travelled back in time last Friday when they visited Strokestown House and Corlea Bog on their history trip. The experience was greatly enjoyed by all. Thanks to Ms Casey and Mrs Mulligan for organizing the day. A talk was given to the Transition year students by Niamh, from ECO UNESCO, informing them about a competition in which they will be competing. Competitors will have to come up with an idea to be used in the school that can benefit the environment in some way. Good luck to all who want to take part!
Well done to the school’s golf team which took part in the first round of the Irish Senior Schools Match play Championships last Thursday. The team consisted of Sean Flanagan, Niall Sheehy, David Shannon and Shane Finnan. Also, well done to Sean Flanagan, who along with the rest of the Co Sligo golf club Senior Cup team won the All–Ireland Senior Cup last weekend. Well done Sean! The first year boys took part in their first football blitz last Friday. Well done to all who played. This was a thirteen-a-side blitz and thanks to Ballymahon GAA club and Mercy Secondary School Ballymahon for the use of their facilities. Welcome to Stephen Coy, who has come from the Leinster Rugby Union to coach the first years and improve their rugby skills.
Girls public speaking competition
Ms Nevin will be working with a few girls in TY to prepare them for a public speaking competition, which will be held in November. We wish them the very best of luck and we hope they will advance to the next round.
Auditions were held on Monday for the Concern Debate team. Ms Egan and Ms O’Donovan will be coaching a team of four debaters throughout the year. We would like to wish them the very best of luck for the year ahead.
We here at Mercy Ballymahon would like to extend a very warm welcome to Ms O’Reilly, who will be teaching Religion and will be working in the Learning Support Department.
Congratulations to Mr Dempsey and his wife on the birth of their son Rían last week.
