CLIFFORD RICHARDSON: Carrigallen’s Clifford Richardson making a big name for himself on Longford Rugby Club. Clifford Richardson son of Mervyn & Gladys Carrigallen of Jet Wash Carrigallen a member of the Buccarees Rugby Club in Athlone has transferred to the Longford Rugby Club. His brother Keith Richardson has played a number of seasons there and was player of the year in 2000. Clifford has played the League Campaign and reached the promotion play offs but unfortunately lost play off. Closest promotion opportunity for club to date had a great winning run in the Leinster Provisional Towns Cup , one of the longest and oldest running cup competitions in Irish rugby. Reached the final for the first time since 1932 for the Longford club which was a great occasion for the club and all its members. Nominated and won Longford Rugby Club player of the year 2013.Clifford is also selected for the Leinster junior rugby teams who play in the Provisional Cup Competition between Munster Ulster and Connacht.

MARGARET OF NEW ORLEANS COMMITTEE PRESENT: ‘Margaret’s Hooley’ – a night of entertainment in aid of Margaret of New Orleans birthplace on Friday May 24, 2013. This is a podium for young emerging talent and experienced performers to take to the stage in Hooley style. CRAFTY LADIES: Coffee morning on Friday May 17 10-12.30pm at post office, Carrigallen. One of our members are doing a class/demo on dress making, following & making patterns, cutting out etc, so please come along , all welcome. CORN MILL AMATEUR DRAMA GROUP: Corn Mill Amateur Drama Group auditions are being held in the Corn Mill Theatre and Arts Centre on 25th and 26th May from 12 noon. All ages welcome, male and female. Auditions are for a Christmas production of a new musical, ‘Cobblestone Sam’, written by Dave Rooney and Bill Monks. Directed by Jessica O’Rourke and produced by Jacqui Rooney Davey. CARERS ASSOCIATION: The Carers Association are holding an information evening in Mitchells Function Room Carrigallen on May 15th at 8.30pm. Guest speaker is Majella O’Donnell from the Alzheimers Society who will provide information on coping with Alzheimers. All welcome.

MEMORIAL EVENT: Leitrim Association of People with Disabilities Memorial Event. In Memory of the late Howard Cusack and Sr Emmanuel Farrelly 5k walk and 2k fun run, walk and roll on Sunday 26 May 2013 at 12.30pm. The event will be launched by Alan Devine (Louie) Fair City and dramaclub.ie and Andy McGovern , author of “Against the odds”. Entry fee 10 euro, families 20 euro everybody of ages welcome. CARRIGALLEN TROUT ANGLING CLUB: The Johnny Fyfe Memorial Pike Fishing Competition was held on Calloughs Lake on Saturday 13th April. The club wish to thank all the competitors. A total of ten boats fished the lake on this day which was a good turnout given the inclement weather conditions. Fishing was very good on the day with a total of fifteen fish were weighed and released. We would like to thank our sponsors who kindly donated spot prizes, Pat Masterson, Pat McCann , Ann & Frank McGovern, Gorby’s Pub, Newtowngore, Noel Lyons,Sean Reilly, Alan Taylor and Thomas Tierney. Competition results are as follows: first prizes went to Thomas Tierney for heaviest fish 14lbs 2 ozs; second Mark Fuller 13lbs 6 ozs; third Andrew McManus 9lbs 1 oz; fourth : for smallest fish went to Sean Reilly 1 lb.

SYMPATHY EXTENDED: To Mrs Delia Higgins and family Aughawillan Carrigallen on the death of her brothers Mr Peter Kiernan, Ballyduffy whose funeral took place in Moyne Church on Saturday May 4th RIP.

MOONE BOY: Third series of Moone Boy on the way. Carrigallen and Boyle are celebrating the news that Chris O’Dowd’s Sky One comedy Moone Boy has been given the go ahead for a third series. Sky’s head of Comedy Lucy Lumsden said since we started on the comedy journey at Sky in 2010 we’ve established some of the most loved series across our four entertainment channels. The outstanding talent at the heart of these new programmes just shows how much more ambition we’ve got for comedy at Sky going forward. There’s a lot more we still want to do. The second series of Moone Boy is expected to air this Autumn and the filming for the third series will be later this year with Carrigallen actor David Rawle is set to return as the star of the show.
