All-Ireland Schools Talent Competition: Congratulations to Justin Mc Guire who was one of three acts to quailify from the All Ireland semi final of the All Ireland schools talent competition which took place in the Royal Theatre Castlebar on Saturday February 23. 
Twenty eight acts competed on the night for a place in the All Ireland final which will take place place in the Helix Theatre Dublin on the 9th March next and which will be screened by RTE television. Competition on the night was of a very high standard and there was great excitment when Justin was announced one of the three winners at the end of a very enteraining night.Justin performed a dance which he choreographed himself and which received tremendous support from the adjuctors and the audience. Justin is representing his school Mercy Secondary school Ballymahon in this talent competition. Justin would like to thank sincerly everyone who has supported him throughout this competition to date. Special thanks to his school Ballymahon Secondary school, the principle Miss Josephine Donoghue all the teaching staff and the students in the school who have given Justin tremendous support to date. Also a big thank you to all Justins family, friends, all the people from the parish and sourrounding areas, the teachers and pupils in Tashinney, Drumlish and Empor national schools for their support to Justin and the national charity “Childline”. All money collected by the public voting process will go towards this charity. Best of luck to Justin in the All-Ireland final on Saturday night the 9th March next.

Defibrillator Group: A class for new people wishing to learn the skills of CPR and how to use a defibrillator will take place in St Sinneachs hall Carrickedmond on Tuesday night the 5th March next. Canoe Club: The recently formed Abbeyshrule Canoe Club held its inaugural AGM last November in the Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule. The AGM was well attended and those in attendance heard about the exciting plans for the year ahead. A number of initial club events were held during 2012 which resulted in over 60 people being awarded their L1 and L2’s kayaking skills. The focus of the club is on family canoeing and will concentrate on utilising the beautiful Royal Canal. The committee has secured an initial 12 canoes for club events which kick off in March next. Other fundraising activities will be held during the year. Annual Membership of the club is very good value at €15 per child, €30 per adult and €75 per family. For junior members a parent must also join as a member of the club. To fund the purchase of equipment there is also a Long Term Membership option (six years for price of five) of €150 per adult or €375 per family. Badminton: Friday night badminton continuous to be a great success in the local parish hall. A tournament has been organised in Kenagh for Thursday March 21st. Our ladies team continue on their trail of success and are now in the league final. The men’s and the mixed team are also doing well. Club night is on Wednesdays from 9.30 till late.
