COMMUNITY GAMES: Pitch & Putt Training will commence on Saturday, the 2nd. March at 11.30 am in Ballinalee. Please note you must have a pitching wedge or 9 iron and a putter, you will also need golf balls and tees and €3.00. Age categories are U16 Boys and U16 Girls. The Community Games U10 Handwriting Competition took place recently in St. Teresa’s N.S. The results are as follows:- Girls – 1st. Laoise-Mei Landers Horne; 2nd. Clara Doherty; 3rd. Rachel Eivers. Boys – 1st. Gavin Farrelly; 2nd. Joe Morrissey; 3rd. Shane Dooner. Well done to all the boys and girls who participated in this Competition and congratulations to the medal winners. Many thanks to Mrs. Dalton, Ms. Gray and Ms. Connaughton from St. Teresa’s N.S. who coordinated this competition on our behalf. Many thanks also to Edward Forster who judged the Handwriting Competition for us. Gavin and Laoise-Mei will now go forward to represent Killoe in the County Final on the 20th. March next. The U8 freestyle swim-off took place last Saturday in Longford Sports and Leisure Centre with Leah Quinn coming in first place and Caoimhe McKenna coming in second place. Well done girls and best of luck to Leah who goes forward to represent Killoe in the County Final on the 16th. March next. Best of luck also to our other swimmers who will be representing Killoe in the County Final. Many thanks to Longford Sports and Leisure Centre for the use of the swimming pool and who co-ordinated the swim-off.

CHERNOBYL: Emily Hughes daughter of Frank and Margaret Farragh Killoe is travelling to Vesnova Belarus with a group of Rose’s from other counties to undertake work on a voluntary basis in the orphanage. Emily has paid for her own travel and is currently fundraising to bring basic necessities for the children in the orphanage. Raffle cards are available locally and from family members with prizes to include Galway crystal,hampers,vouchers plus many more excellent prizes. A function will be held in Begleys pub Killoe on Sunday 17 March when raffle will take place. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

LONGFORD REACHING OUT: Contact descendants of people who have emigrated from your area launch in Longford library Tuesdays March 2013 at 7.30pm. Genealogy and pilot training to commence after Easter. Henry Healy relative of president Obama will launch the programme.

GAELSCOIL: Longford Gaelscoil open day and enrolment for all classes will be held on Saturday 2 March 2013 from 1pm – 3pm. CONDOLENCE: Sincere sympathy is extended to the McCann family Aughnamaddo Killoe Co Longford, McCann families USA on the sad bereavement of their dear brother Brendan (Brian) (predeceased by his parents Patrick and Ellen nee Gregg) who was laid to rest last week. The parish express condolence to his brothers Michael (Mick Aughnamaddo) James, Peter USA, sisters Mary (Maloney) Margaret (Maggie Corrigan) Rosaleen (Bella Mulkerrins , brother/sisters in law, nieces, nephews extended families. Requiem mass was celebrated in St Marys Church Ennybegs Killoe with burial afterwards in Newtownforbes Co Longford cemetery. May he rest peacefully.
