The Jackpot was €2850 – Numbers drawn were 5 / 9 / 11 / 30. No winner. €50 winners – Siobhán O’Hara, Aughaga, Moyne. Phyllis Daly, Main Street, Arva. The Lotto Jackpot on Monday last 4th March was €2900. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. League: Arva travel to Ballyconnell on this Saturday to play the home side in the Brady’s Arva Volkswagen All County Football League Division 3 with throw-in at 3.00 pm. Always a tight battle between these two sides and this game will be no different. We encourage all supporters to come along and cheer on the players. They got a good start to the League with a home win over Templeport and hopefully they can continue in this vein.

Arva Ladies GFC: Arvaladiesgfc@gmail.com In order to facilitate the juvenile boys training session (10-11 am) and to give the girls’ coach enough time to prepare the pitch, girls training will start now at 11.30 sharp every Saturday. Also U16 League Round 2 this Saturday in Drumgoon. We meet outside the hall at 11.30am. Drivers needed, please.

Church Services: For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – Sunday 10th March - United Service at 3.30pm in Columbkille. Dean Raymond Ferguson will commission 3 new Parish Readers and re-commission 3 Parish Readers who have been serving in the Parish group for many years. All welcome. Reception afterwards in Aughnacliffe Community service.

Lourdes: The annual Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 27th May to 1st June led by Bishop Leo O’ Reilly. Busy Bees: Childcare Facility has relocated to the Church of Ireland National school opposite Brady’s garage and Bruse Manor on the Cavan rd. Opening hours 8.30 to 6.15. Full day care - 140 euro per week, Playschool free for qualifying children (age 3years and 2months on 1st September starting date) or 47 euro per week, Afterschool - 70 euro (lunch included) per week. Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue on each Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is over €3,100-00 in Prize Money on offer each week (€1,000-00 on page 9) making it one of the best around. Recent €1,000 winners were Nancy Gill, Drumlish and John Joe Donnelly, Aughavas. Eyes down at 8.30 pm.

Free Money: Saturday Night’s Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva is called ‘Free Money Saturday’ and on Saturday night last there was no winner. On this Saturday night there will be €400 on offer. Free entry to the draw. You must be there to win – the draw takes place anytime after 10.00pm.

Walking group: The Arva Trotters Walking Group will be out each Sunday morning at 11.15 am. Everyone welcome.

Dog Fouling: Footpath in Arva are at times impassable due to fog fouling. Residence and shoppers alike are requesting that dog owners clean up after their dogs. The Dog warden has been informed and the matter is being kept under review.

Awards: St Patricks Day award for best dressed window, Prizes for floats and pagentry on the day. The Theme for 2013 is “the gathering on the move” be there Arva is the spot.

Congrats: Congratulations are extended to Ms Eimear Donnelly, Main Street, Arva and Mr Gerry Maguire, Legga, Moyne who announced their engagement recently. We wish them every happiness in the future.

Death: The area was saddened by the death of Mr Desmond Montgomery, Gartylough, Arva which occurred recently at his residence. Dessie as he was popularly known was a great tradesman and done a lot of building in his younger years. Along with his great friend the late Packie Mulligan he build his own home and afterwards concentrated on his land. He had a great interest in farming and was very knowledgeable regarding cattle and horses. Dessie had been in ill health for some time prior to his death but his passing still came as a shock to his many friends. He was predeceased by his sister Mrs Muriel Kells and is survived by his wife Mary, sons Derek and William, daughters Denise Thompson, Anrim, Jennifer, Valerie and Irene, grandchildren, brother Cyril, sister Maud and many friends to all of whom we extend sincere sympathy. His remains were removed to Arva Parish Church for Funeral Service with burial in the adjoining churchyard. Rev Hazel Kicks officiated. Sympathy is extended to Mrs Breege Fox, Longford Street, Arva on the death of her mother Mrs Mary Agnes Reilly, Toome, Dring, Co Longford which occurred recently. Following Requiem Mass in St Columbas Church, Mullinalaghta burial took place in the local cemetery. Sympathy is extended to Mrs Margaret Shanaghy, Gartylough, Arva on the death of her mother Mrs Bridget Dolan, Callanagh, Kilcogy which occurred recently. Following Requiem Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran burial took place in the adjoining cemetery

Show: Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting on this Thursday night 7th March at 9.00 pm in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva. All members are requested to attend and new members always welcome.

I.M.N.D.A.: On this Saturday night 9th March Mary Cullen will hand over a cheque to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association which is the proceeds of gifts from her 50th Birthday Party. Mary asked for Donations to IMNDA instead of gifts and she received in excess of €2,000-00. The cheque will be accepted by Andy Mc Govern, Aughavas who has the disease for 37 years and recently Launched his second book “Against the Odds” – living with Motor Neurone Disease. We urge as many as possible to come along on Saturday night and listen to Andy who has a fantastic outlook on life and always sees the glass half full. The association are extremely grateful to Mary for her generous gesture and thank everyone who contributed on the night.

Course: Irish Leaving Certificate Revision Course covering all aspects of the Irish Oral Exam worth 40% will be on in St. Mary’s GAA grounds, Granard on Saturday March 9th from 10-3pm and in Trivia House, Swanlinbar on Sunday 10th March from 12-5pm. Arva Social Club: The Carrigallen Social Club have invited the Arva Group to a showing of the film “Sapphires” in Carrigallen on this Friday night 8th March at 7,30 pm. admission is €10 which will include refreshments. All wishing to go should meet at St Patrick’s Hall, Arva for lifts at 7 o’clock. Cornafean Social Club have also invited the Arva Group to a Social Night in Mc Seains, Cornafean on Thursday of next week – 14th March. For all those wishing to go a bus will depart from St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 8.00 pm. On the 1st Friday last the Group decided that Galway was to be the destination for this years Summer Break. All details of prices and itinerary will be available at the next 1st Friday meeting where €100-00 deposits per head will be collected.

Congrats: Congratulations are extended to Mrs Nuala O’ Hanlon, Pound Street, Arva and popular member of staff in Fosters Pharmacy who celebrated a significant birthday recently. On behalf of her many friends we wish her many more happy days.

Come dine with me: St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club are holding “Come Dine With Me” in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex on Saturday of next week 16th March commencing at 9.30 pm. if anyone wishes to help out the club by hosting a table they should contact one of the officers – Niall Brady 077 253 4453, Cyril Sheridan 049 4335 247, Barney Cully 087 6794 215. Everyone is welcome to attend but they must have a ticket purchased before Wednesday evening of next week 13th March. There will be strictly no admission for the meal without a ticket as the hosts need to know how much food is required. An Eighty’s Disco will follow and everyone is welcome to dance the night away. With St Patrick’s Day to follow this is an ideal opportunity to join in what is going to be a great community event while raising much needed funds for the local club.
