Job Seeking Skills Programme: Employment, Development & Information Centre (EDI Centre) Longford identified a need to assist unemployed jobseekers in Job Search, CV Preparation, Interview Skills & Mock Interviews. Due to the high level of unemployment locally, a need for this service emerged. This service operated in 2012 and exceeded all expectations and will continue in Partnership with Longford Community Resources Ltd., at the EDI Centre. This programme provides a range of facilities and services to support those who are unemployed, in training, in a part time or low paid employment, to assist and enhance their prospects with their job seeking endeavours. It will also provide information on employment rights and entitlements, training & education programmes while also providing access to on line computer service to assist with employment opportunities. Anyone can avail of this programme. Training takes place on an ongoing basis to build the ability and skills of people to seek employment. Clients will be assessed and directed into the programme most suited to their needs. The service will operate on Thursday mornings from 10am – 1pm. Active Retirement: We have decided to travel to Youghal for our four-day break on the 11 June staying at the Quality Hotel, Youghal, Redbarn Beach, Youghal, Co. Cork. Community Project – Purchase of NAMA property at Rathcronan: Our next public meeting takes place this Thursday the 7th at 8pm in The Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard. This meeting forms part of our ongoing feasibility study and as such we invite all individuals and groups from in and around the parish to come along and express their opinion on what could be done with this property to help create a visitor attraction for the area. We would love to hear everybody’s ideas. Our February draw will also take place at the meeting.
St. Vincent De Paul: St. Vincent De Paul Granard are delighted to announce the opening of their Charity Shop in Market St. Granard, (near library), on Saturday, March 16th @12 midday. Everybody is welcome. Our branch caters for the needs of people in the Granard/Abbeylara/Mullinalaghta areas. We would greatly appreciate clothing, bric a brac, etc. for the shop. Fianna Fail Cumman: The annual general meeting of Abbeylara Fianna Fail Cumman will be held next Tuesday night the 12 March in the Sports Complex at 8.30pm. Easter Festival: Plans are now at an advanced stage for the Easter Festival on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March. The festival kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 3pm with a gruelling 5K Run which starts at Kiernan Milling! Entry is 10 per adult and 5 for U16 participants. Prizes are as follows 1st 200, 2nd 100 and 3rd 50. There will be a special prize of 50 for the first U16 competitor across the finish line.If you wish to participate call Patrick on 043 6687935. Later in the evening at 4.30, the Novelty Tug-O-War will take place on Main Street. All businesses in the area are invited to enter a team of 7 people. The cost is 20 per team. There will be an Artisan Food & Craft Fare boasting an array of home baking including cheese, meats,boxty, jams, apple pies, crepes and confectionary so all palettes will be catered for. After the parade Shindig – formerly known as the Merchant Archers, will take to the stage followed by popular local group Paper Planes! As it is Easter Sunday there’ll be lots of Easter Eggs to give away!! Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun! With such a variety of live entertainment there is something for everyone at the Easter Festival in Granard!

Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver: We welcome Sr. Lucyna from the Missionary Sisters of St Peter Clover to our parish next weekend Sat. 9 and Sun. 10 March. Sr. Lucyna will speak at the Masses about their mission work.
Stations of the Cross: Takes place on Sunday 10 March in Carra Church Abbeylara at 7p.m. You are very welcome to come and take part in retracing Our Lord’s footsteps on the Way to Calvary through the prayer of the Cross.
