Ladies Footballers: As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in the local shops or are available from club members. Match the bonus number in Saturday’s night draw you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are available for €50 by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. The number drawn on Saturday 8th December was 7 with Liz Brady, Leitrim earning herself €20.

Fireside Tales: Lovers of folklore and stories from long ago will be delighted to hear that Jude Flynn has published his 10th issue of much acclaimed Fireside Tales. As usual Jude has stories from many parishes around the county. These will of great interest to both young and old. Like previous editions this publication gives a marvellous insight of life years ago. It would be a very nice Christmas present for friends at home or abroad. Copies of same are on sale in Cloonagh P.O for €20.

Charity Game: On St. Stephen’s Day a novel game will take place in the ‘Laurels’ with both ladies and gents lining out on the same teams. With a 1.30p.m throw in a great hour of fun, craic and entertainment is guaranteed. Your support on the day would be very much appreciated as all proceeds from the event are being donated to St. Christopher’s School.

Christmas Cards: The local Foroige club have Christmas cards on sale depicting St. Columba’s Church in the snow. They would be very suitable for friends and family members away from home. Cards are available in local shops or from members of the club at €1 each or six for €5.

Got An Idea: St. Columba’s N.S. Board of Management would like to invite you to put forward your ideas as to what should be done with our old school building. The building has recently been renovated, so we now need to get it up and running as a working building. All suggestions are welcome. If you would like to make a proposal as to what purpose it could hold, please write down your idea and post back or hand into school.

County Longford Rural Transport: Longford Community Resources Ltd ( LCRL) manage and administer the Rural Transport Programme, which covers the rural regions of County Longford. Many thanks to all the stakeholders who have supported, and indeed campaigned for the continuation of the Programme throughout the year. Spaces are still available for this ‘’door to door’’ service in your area. Please contact your Local Provider or Seamus ( Co-ordinator} at 043 3345555. All age groups welcome! All routes for 2012 will be completed by Saturday 29th December. Services for 2013 will resume on Wednesday 2nd January.

Bereavement: It is with regret that the news of the death of Bridget Deegan was received in her native Derrycasson. Formerly Denning, Bridget emigrated to Derby in the late sixties. Her death is all the more poignant as her brother Paddy passed away just a few months ago. Predeceased by her husband eleven years ago she is survived by her sons William and John, brothers John, Tommie and Ollie, sisters Julia and Mary, nephews, nieces and inlaws to whom we extend our sympathy. May she rest in peace.
