FIRE ALARMS: Its important that all houses in the parish should have fire alarms. The long winter nights will soon be here and its a time for every house in the parish for to have a fire alarm installed. It’s well known that more lives could have been saved if alarms had been placed, fire chiefs have said. New figures from the Irish chief fire officers Association has reported a dramatic reduction in the number of deaths from fires for this year. A total of 17 fatalities were reported during the first nine months of 2012 compared to 30 for the period last year.

WINTER GAMeS: Some Winter games in the parish were discontinued - why? Some short years past Carrigallen were in the news big time with their large number of Winter games. Having a first class badminton team winning many tournaments when various teams from Arva, Killeshandra Belturbet, Ballyconnell, Mohill, Ballinamore and Carrick-on-Shannon came to Carrigallen for to take on the local team without much success and the same happened to table tennis teams who got no change out of the Carrigallen team and finally the best billiard team in over 4 parishes it was a great place for all the young people of the parish for to spend the long winter nights in a nice warm hall and off the streets. Youngsters have no sport to take up only to visit the pubs. Many also wonder why there is no one to show the odd film one or two nights weekly in the local theatre which is prepared to accommodate a cinema as well.
