To help with printing costs the Parish Pastoral Council has decided that each month may be sponsored by an individual or company. The page can have printed on it the name of the sponsor or the business/company logo. A modest two figure sum has been suggested!! Inquiries to Fr. Mc Govern or any members of the Parish Council.

Tidy Towns:  Please support our fundraising night in the Castle Inn on Saturday next 13th October. Music, Craic & Prizes promise to make an enjoyable night so the more the merrier.  The following is an extract from this year’s adjudication report and we will include some over the next few weeks so people can get a flavour of how we did this year. Overall Development Approach:39/50 You communicate extremely well with the local community and if everyone in the village made a small effort it would lighten the load for the dedicated volunteers who are routinely out improving the village for the benefit of all. Creating a Tidy Towns website is a good idea but social networking sites can work just as well - many centers have extremely informative Facebook pages that seem to get a lot of viewing. Involving the school in your work projects is a worthwhile initiative and we are pleased to see that you consulted with them in relation to village improvements. As the adjudicator notes that you are a relatively recently resurrected group perhaps consider establishing a junior committee in a few years. In the meantime continue with your efforts, as you will see as you read your report they are reaping rewards. The Built Environment: 38/50 Scoil Mhuire looked immaculate on adjudication day and the adjudicator noted its three green flags. The recent stone re-pointing and walling around a vacant cottage was noted. The appealing and somewhat atypical St Paul’s Church of Ireland stands prominently off the Main Street and is set off by the graveyard, boundary walls and gates. St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church is framed well from the main street and is well presented. The parish hall is also clean and crisp and the adjudicator thought the name plate with the swan on the parish hall was very apt given the Irish meaning of Clonguish - The Meadow of the Swans! The Eden House B&B, Bells Newsagents, Tus Nua, The Loft, and Bells Butchers also deserve a mention for their good presentation. There are a number of vacant buildings throughout the village but at present these are not in a very bad state of repair. We visited the GAA club and sports grounds and thought that landscaping would benefit the car park here.
