Its Marathon Time: This Sunday its St.Barry’s GAA Marathon and the Annual event has now become a recognised running event throughout the Country. There is of course the Half Marathon and the very popular 8k race which is a nice run or indeed walk if you are not into running. Registration takes place at St.Barry’s GAA Hall and the venue will be opened from early morning to assist those taking part in both runs. This can be a fun day for all the family so please come out and get involved. The races are opened to anyone who wishes to become involved, all you need to do is register at clubrooms along the N 5. St.Barry’s GAA Club wish to sincerely thank the Westward Group proprietors of the local Centra with particular thanks to Declan Jones for his outstanding help and support for this event. Declan and the Westward Group have been so supportive and enthused about this event.So come along this Sunday and participate in the events.

Feile Frank McGann: Feile Frank McGann one of the leading traditional Irish Music Festivals takes place in Strokestown this Friday,Saturday and Sunday 12th,13th, and 14th October.Workshops, music in the pubs and Cathy Jordan and Dervish in concert. Also the Tulla Ceili Band, Siobhan Peoples, Colm Gannon, Seamus O Kane, Suzanne Leahy and many more. This is always one of the most enjoyable weekends of traditional music anywhere in the Country and very enjoyable for all ages.Workshops will take place at Upper Church St in Scoil Mhuire Secondary School on Saturday.
Cycle Race in aid of MS North West Therapy Centre: A cycle race in aid of the above will take place on this Saturday October 13th. The cycle will begin at Longford Rugby Club and will stop at Esquires Restaurant in Carrick on Shannon for refreshments.The race will then return to Longford Rugby Club.A number of local cyclists will be taking part in the event and sponsorship cards are available around the Parish.You can Log on to the Facebook page “MS Cycle 2012”.Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Withdrawal of Bus Service: The decision of Bus Eireann to remove its service from the Ruskey area has been partly reversed.It now seems that there will be at least one service per day to the village, this is going to effect a number of people particularly pensioners and young people who often stay on studying in school in Longford in the evening and then take a Bus Eireann bus out of town. This is a little improvement and at least we have not lost the total link but Bus Eireann need to reassess this situation and provide a service a the most suitable time for residents.We await further clarification from Bus Eireann.
