Under 14’s Gallant in Defeat: Hard luck to the Northern Gaels under 14 squad on their narrow defeat to a stronger Mostrim side on Saturday last in Mostrim. Luck certainly deserted them on the day as they battled bravely until the final whistle with the home side holding out to clinch victory on a scoreline of 4-8 to 4-5. The Northern Gaels side can be proud of their performance and no doubt will represent the Green and Black of the club for years to come. Mullinalaghta’s representatives on the squad included Ronan Callaghan, Paul Leonard, Tom Meehan, Cian McElligott, Eoghan Byrne, Eoghan Keegan and Tom Mooney. Dan, Shamie, Raymond and Pat can be proud of their achievement in bringing the boys to the final and thanks to all supporters who travelled to the games throughout the year.

Under 16s Complete Double: Congratulations to our under 16 Northern Gaels team on their victory over Clonguish in the league final on Saturday last in Ballinalee. Northern Gaels dominated the game from the start and led at the interval by 1-5 to 0-1 thanks to some excellent points from Rian Brady and Nigel Rabbitte and a fantastic goal from Aidan Mc Elligott who fielded a great delivery from Nigel Rabbitte and sent a bullet of a shot to the net. They set the same trend in the second half despite a valiant effort from Clonguish and led by 1-13 to 0-3 at the final whistle. Mullinalaghta were well represented on the team with Luke Meehan in outstanding form in goals pulling off some spectacular saves while Aidan Brady, James Mooney and Aaron Brady kept the Clonguish forwards at bay with some heroic defending. At midfield David Mc Givney was again superb and was supreme in the aerial battles. Up front Michael Cunningham, Rian Brady, Jason Matthews linked up well with their colleagues to outwit the opposition defence and ensure that the Michael Fay Cup was presented to joint captains David McGivney and Aidan McElligott who were loud in their praise for Ruairi McElligott and David Sheridan for all the work they put in throughout the year. Both the under 16’s and under 14’s were treated to some refreshments in the community centre afterwards to complete an enjoyable day.
