The annual fundraising Camino de Santiago walk will take place from August 4 to August 11 next. A group from Longford will undertake the walk and in doing so raise funds for worthwhile local CASA charity and the CASA Breakhouses, Dublin. The latter is a respite house which offers people with special needs the opportunity to experience a weekend break or a holiday.
The local group will undertake the walk under the spiritual direction of Fr. Frank Murray, a native of Carrickboy and a former Longford curate. Currently there are ten places left and the community at large is being invited to take part in the historic walk.
Each participant must raise a minimum of €2,000. Training advice and fundraising ideas will be available to all participating.
Located in Spain, the famous pilgrimage attracts thousands to its tracks each year. This particular section of the Camino (which will be walked by the local group), travels along the fifth section of the Camino Portugese Way, following the iconic Camino de Santiago de Compostela – the famous way of St. James.
The walk will be completed over a six day period and it is considered very manageable for those with a reasonable level of fitness and preparation. Those interested in taking part in the walk should register with CASA within the next month. You can do so by calling: 01-8725300.
