St. Patrick’s Festival: The event on Sunday 18 March was a wonderful success and congratulations to organisers. With ideal weather conditions on the day people from a wide area turned out in their hundreds to enjoy the entertainment and colourful parade. The town and surrounding areas were looking so well for the event and great credit to everyone who made such an effort for the day. Among those on the reviewing stand were the Mayor of Co. Longford Cllr. Frank Kilbride. Granard Town Mayor Cllr P.J. Reilly, Cllr Maura Kilbride Harkin and members of Granard Town Council. Ms Anne Glancy Town Clerk. Deputy James Bannon. Superintendent Lackey. Carmel Fay Chairperson of the organising committee Sr. Maeve Brady and Eduardo Ramus Sheridan who travelled from Buenos Aires Argentina to be with friends in Granard for the festivities. Jody Sheridan acted as Grand Marshall. Details of winning floats and Iron Man Competition next week. Following the success of the parade it is hoped to make this an annual event.
Cnoc Mhuire: Congratulations to the U-16 team and mentors who retained their All Ireland Vocational U-16 A Championship on St. Patrick’s Day in Nenagh by defeating Bohar Bui C.S school Mallow by 1.06 to 8pts.
Granard Area Action Group: The next meeting of the C.E. Sponsoring group will take place on Monday 2 April at 8.00pm in the Information Office Main Street Granard. All members are requested to attend.
Granard Community Child Care Facility: A Registration and Information Evening for The Hill Childcare Facility takes place on Tuesday 27 March at 8.00pm. Services include Playgroup Preschool and Montessori Nursery Creche and After-schools. There are discounts available for parents who are in receipt of Social Welfare and /or have a Medical Card.
AG Bingo: Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre Granard. Please note start time is 8.45pm all year round. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Your support will be appreciated.
Lisryan Soccer Club: Lisryan Schoolboy Soccer Club are holding their annual fundraising event on Friday 23 March at 9 pm in the Crossroads Inn Lisryan. Your support would be most welcome. We congratulate Cnoc Mhuire Under 16A footballers on winning their All-Ireland title on St. Patrick’s Day.

Historical Society: Co. Longford Historical Society will hold their monthly lecture on this Thursday 22 March at 8.30pm in the Longford Arms Hotel. Thomas Flynn will talk on “The Development of the GAA in County Longford”.
Daffodil Day: Daffodil Day takes place on this Friday 23 March. This is the 25th year of the fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society. Please support by buying a daffodil on the day.
Greville Arms Golf Society: The first outing of the year - Spring Cup takes place this Saturday 24 March in Roscommon Golf Course commencing at 11am. Everyone looking forward to an enjoyable day’s golf.

St. Christopher’s Services: Granard Branch of St. Christopher’s Services is having an Easter Bunny Sponsored Walk which will take place on Sunday 1st April at 3pm starting at the Granard Health Centre to Abbeylara. An Easter egg raffle and eggs galore after the walk. Your support and company would be greatly appreciated.
Cookery Demonstration : A Cookery Demonstration hosted by celebrity chef Gary O’Hanlon of Viewmount House Longford and RTE’s Four Live in aid of Granard Community Childcare will take place on Tuesday 3 April at 8:00pm in the Piker’s Lodge Loch Gowna. Moatsiders Active Age: Our next meeting will take place on this Thursday March 22 March and we will be going on a day trip to the Red Earth Centre in Mullingar. Pick up at Rath Mhuire Centre at 1.00pm. Thanks as always to Patricia McCormack for the yoga class at our last meeting. Death: Sympathy is extended to Marian Gallagher and family Dalystown Granard on the death of her mother Kathleen Reynolds Carrickbawn Finea, who died on Thursday 15 March. Funeral Mass was celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day in Carrick Church followed by burial in adjoining graveyard. May she rest in peace.
