Slimathon: Bornacoola Youth Club would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported them in their recent “Lose the Pounds Raise the €€€`s” Slimathon fund raiser. With an amazing 30 stone lost and in excess of €10,000 raised it was an outstanding achievement. We had a very enjoyable night in Copper Still to finish off the slimathon where the winning team of Jason Faughnan, Padraig Jones, Daniel Canning, Bobby Shanley, Tom and Mary Shanley were presented with their prizes Sponsored by Harkins Bistro, Landmark Hotel, Cryans Hotel, Cox’s Steakhouse, Weir Lodge Chinese and the Copper Still Who also provided food on the night. Our thanks to Derek and the ever popular ‘Looney Hoppers’ for a most enjoyable night. We hope the money raised will help us build a facility for all the children of our parish to meet and socialise. We hope everyone who took part found the experience both rewarding and fun. To everyone who took part, sponsored prizes or money, gave talks or classes or helped out in any way we would like to say a huge thank you. Finally anyone with outstanding sponsorship is reminded it can be given to any Youth Club Leader. Thanks again.

Leitrim v Roscommon: On Sunday morning last we all left for Park Sean Carrick-on-Shannon with the highest of expectations for our county in the Connaught semi final. Roscommon had something else in mind when right from the start they were the sharper, fitter and more skilful team taking long distance points and then a devastating goal. Leitrim were never at the races if it were not for two tremendous saves from goalie Cathal McCrann the scoreboard would have looked a lot worse at the end. Leitrim now go down the qualifier route and you never know what will happen there. We wish Roscommon the best of luck when they take on either Mayo or Galway in the Connaught final, it will take a great team to beat them.
