St Patrick’s Arva: There were no games for the last two weekend’s but will be back in action on this weekend with a Division 3 game on Saturday at 7.30pm away to Ballymachugh. The Reserve Division 3 game will be on Sunday 19th June at 1pm away to Mullahoran. The club is badly hit at the moment with some of the players gone abroad in search of summer work while injuries and exams will deprive the club of another 7 or 8 players.

Lotto: The Arva Football Club started their own Lotto last weekend and received a good response. The winning numbers were 3 – 11 – 13 – 15 and while there were some envelopes with 3 numbers no-one had all four. The following received a €50 consolation prize – Adrian Donohoe, Cavan, Bridget Sheridan, Drumhaldry, Moyne, Noel Maguire, Dromard. Next Monday night the Prize will be €1,050 with 3 consolation prizes of €50 each if the Jackpot is not won. The Club are looking for students to sell envelopes. Anyone interested should give their names to Club Secretary Siobhán O’Hara. The club are hoping that this fundraising will go a long way to financing the needs of the club and will cover all age groups including the Ladies club. There is great work ongoing within the club and children from U-8 upwards are coached in the skills of the game. It is to be hoped that the community will support all this good work and join the GAA Lotto. Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw which will be held in the clubrooms for the first few weeks.

Congratulations: We extend our congratulations to St Felim’s Hurling Team who recently won the Ulster Hurling Féile competition for the second year running and they now go on to represent Cavan and Ulster at the National Féile Finals in Galway on Friday / Saturday and Sunday week 24th / 25th /26th June. The team is made up of under 14 hurlers from the Arva, Ballinagh and Lacken Clubs and they will stay with members of Padraig Pearses Club in Ballinasloe. They play the host club on Friday and will play Warwickshire from England and Annaghdown on Saturday. If the results go well they will play the Final on Sunday in Pearse Stadium, Salthill.

Bingo: Games continue every Sunday night with a great attendance in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva. There is over €3,000 in prizes on offer with two panels worth €500 each. With the prize money that is on offer it is rightly seen as one of the best sessions in the region – Eye’s down 9.00 pm sharp.

Thanks: St. Mary’s National School, Arva The pupils and staff of St. Mary’s N.S. Arva would like to thank everyone who donated to the Ice-Cream Party recently for Down Syndrome Ireland. They collected 602.47 euro. Well done to all concerned.

Arva Show: Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting in the Resource Centre, Market square, Arva on this Thursday night at 9.30 pm. all members are requested to attend and new members are always welcome.

Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to Mr Philip Galligan, Kilgarve, Arva on the death of his mother Mrs Rose Galligan, Legwee Bridge, Loughduff which occurred at her residence on Friday 3rd June. Her remains were removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran on Saturday and following Requiem Mass on Sunday burial took place in Mullaghboy Cemetery.

Recent Death: The death occurred at Cavan General Hospital on Sunday 5th June of Walter Kemp, Drumalt, Arva following a short illness. He had been in indifferent health for some years but took seriously ill just three weeks prior to his passing. Walter was from a farming background but was employed by Cavan County Council as Caretaker of the Arva Town Water Supply for some years. As part of his duties he was also a member of the Arva Fire Brigade and he took great pride in both jobs. He had a great love of the outdoors and all wildlife and with his family he fished over a wide part of the country. His remains were removed from his residence to Arva Parish Church on Tuesday afternoon for Funeral Service with burial in the adjoining churchyard – Rev Hazel Hick’s officiated assisted by Rev Dr Lindsay Wilson, Castlederg, Co Tyrone. There was a steady stream of callers to his home on Monday evening and Tuesday morning while the Church was packed to capacity for his Funeral Service showing the esteem in which he and his family are held. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane, son Raymond who lives in the Highlands of Scotland, daughters Mrs Vanessa Martin, Kesh, Co Fermanagh and Mrs Lavinia Harpur, Castlederg, Co Tyrone, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and family circle to all of whom we extend sincere sympathy.

Kids Summer Camps: The Kids I.T. Summer Camps will run over the month of July in the Réaltóg Centre, Kilnaleck They are also running an Integration Summer Camp, the camp will explore arts and crafts and cookery in Ireland and other countries, and will be run in early August. Breffni 20K: - The annual Breffni 20K Challenge which involves walking / jogging / running etc from Cavan to Arva will take place this year on 30th July. This will be the 11th year of fundraising for St Luke’s Hospital and associated charities and despite the economic situation in our country it is expected that most counties will be represented on the day. Sponsorship Cards etc will be available shortly and more details will follow in the coming weeks.

Wild West Festival: After a lapse of a year the very popular American Truck and Wild West Festival will take place in Arva on the weekend of 24th, 25th, 26th June with all the usual attractions and a couple of new ideas.
