Death

Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the soul of John Murphy, formerly of Lough Sheever House, Mullingar and Market St., Granard, who died on Monday, 13 July. May he rest in peace.

Cemetery Sunday

Cemetery Sunday will be held in Abbeylara on Sunday, 26 July. Please help with the grass cutting, weeding, cleaning and tidying of the Cemetery for this important event.

Citizens Information

There will be no Citizens Information Outreach Service in Granard on Thursday mornings for the months of July and August. If you require any information or advice please call to our office in Longford which is situated at Level One at Longford Shopping Centre or alternatively call our National Call Centre on 076 1074000. This Service provides free, quality, confidential, up-to-date information and advice to all in relation to their civil and social rights, entitlements and the social services that exist to support them.

Autumn Courses

Longford Women’s Link is now taking bookings for Autumn Courses. These courses include Occupational First Aid, Occupational First Aid Refresher, Child Development, Special Needs Assisting, Manual Handling and Patient Moving, NUI Maynooth Certificate in Addiction Studies and a Special Purpose Award in Transformative Community Education. Pilgrimage

For those interested in undertaking a Pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick for Reek Sunday, July 26, a bus will be calling at the following locations; Granard at 5.00am, Ballinalee Church at 5.15am, Killoe Park at 5.20am, Church in Newtownforbes at 5.30am, the Cathedral Car Park in Longford at 5.40am, Tarmonbarry Grotto at 5.50am, Strokestown, Percy French at 6.10am and Ballaghadereen at 6.40am. Bingo

Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €20,000. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

Cemetery Sunday

Mass will be celebrated in the New Cemetery in Granardkille on Sunday, 26 July at 1pm and in the old Cemetery Granardkille on Sunday 2 August at 11.30am.

Ploughing

Colmcille Ploughing Association is holding their annual ploughing and field day on Sunday, 30 August on the lands of the Bleakley Family, Smear.

Garden Party

An opportunity to socialise and take a couple of happy hours out will take place in Lus na Greine Resource Centre, Granard on Friday, 24 July in the Centre’s Garden at approximately 12 noon until 2.00pm. We will have music, finger food and a chance to enjoy the outdoors and chat to neighbours and friends. All welcome!

Cancer Society’s Care to Drive

This service is currently seeking Volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments, we are looking for volunteer drivers from all over County Longford to pick local patients up at their homes, drive them to the door of the hospital, pick them up again when they are finished their treatment and bring them home. The service is free to the patient and all drivers’ expenses are paid. Clonfin Fundraiser

Commemoration Committee are holding a 5km walk/run on Sunday, 2 August next starting at McElvaney’s of Coolarty at 6.00pm. Registration will be from 5.00pm and when the walk is complete there will be a BBQ in McElvaney’s followed by an evening of Irish music song and dance. Registration is 10 euro per adult and 5 euro for children and all proceeds will go towards the Clonfin project which is ongoing at the present time. The committee will greatly appreciate your support.

School Reunion

St. Patrick’s N.S, Killeen will hold a 50th anniversary celebration on Sunday 27 September.  A book is being compiled to commemorate this event. We are seeking old photos and stories that people wish to share and have published in this book. Photos and stories may be scanned and emailed to admin@killeenschool.ie. Alternatively these may be given to any committee, board or staff member or handed into McElvaney’s. Please put your name on the back of original photos so that these can be returned after they have been copied. In order to allow time for editing and publishing of the book we need all submissions by the 14 August and your support in helping make this event a success will be greatly appreciated.

Breffni Challenge

The Annual Breffni 3 Province Challenge, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, 20K will take place this year on Saturday, 1 August with the proceeds going as usual to St. Luke’s Hospital for Cancer Cure, Care and Control, N.B.C.R.I. Parish Draw

The next Parish draw takes place on Friday, 24 July in Abbeylara after the 7.30pm Mass. You are welcome to attend the draw. Any monies due to the draw, please hand in before then.

Tidy Towns

Judging is now well on the way, I hear they will be in Abbeylara very soon, so why not make that very special effort and have every area looking its best.  Thanks to all who are out at the moment, the hanging baskets are eye catching as well as the window boxes, thanks again.
