First Holy Communion

New Parish Centre
The open evening for the people of our parish will take place on Friday, 29 May in our new Parish Centre. Our Proposed Format is as follows - welcome, viewing, Holy Mass and Blessing of our new Parish Centre followed by refreshments. Abbeylara is the place to be on Friday, June 12, as the Community will celebrate the opening of the new Abbeylara Parish Centre. To mark the opening o f the new centre, Ireland Top Country Artist, Derek Ryan and his Band will take to the stage for a night of music and dancing. Derek has taken the country world by storm since his debut song ‘God’s Plan’, which was a massive hit. Known for his energetic and entertaining live shows, Derek’s visit to Abbeylara is an extremely exciting event for the local village and tickets, which are no doubt in, demand. You can avail of the tickets from the following venues; the Music Centre in Longford, P.J Farrell’s in Abbeylara, Lynch’s Gala, Loughduff, Supervalu in Edgeworthstown and Images Hair Salon, Granard. Tickets cost just €15 each. Dancing takes place from 11pm to 1am.
A group of Spanish Studies are hoping to attend a summer camp in Cnoc Mhuire, Granard from 4 July to 24 July. This is the first year for the camp in the Granard area and is an extension of the successful Moyne Community summer camp which has been running since 2011. Ladies Mini Marathon
Sponsorship cards are now available from Lus na Greine and are urging as many in the community as possible to walk for the Centre. The Centre which is managed by community volunteers is a key resource within the area and needs your support. Sincere thanks to all the volunteers and all who helped in so many ways.
On Sunday, 31 May next a Poker Classic will be held in the Breffni Arms Hotel in Arva starting at 6.00pm. Buy in cost 30 euro with Rebuys, Top up available, Early Bird Bonus. This Classic is organised by friends of the late Martin Cadden and all proceeds go to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund. All support will be greatly appreciated.
The annual Dring Festival will take place this year on 31 May on the shores of Lough Gowna in Dring car park. It is a day not to be missed! All proceeds on the day will go to St. Christopher’s in Longford.
The committee are hosting a major fundraising night at Longford Greyhound Track on Friday, 15 May next. First Race will be starting at 8.00pm. Tickets are priced at €10 and will be available from any committee member and also at various locations around the town. Raffle on the night with some excellent prizes. This is expected to be a big social gathering of all members and supporters of Granard Agri-Show and promises to be a great night with a few surprises in store so why not come along and join in the fun.

Longford photographers are invited to enter a Portrait Photography competition with a prize of €500 and an exhibition alongside the Cruthu Arts Festival which will be held in July 2015. The competition is for art photography and judges will be looking for portraits of a technical standard that are creative and that express an identity. Closing date for entries is May 15.
