For the foreseeable future, weekday Masses in St. Matthews Church will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the usual time of 10a.m. No Masses on Mondays or Wednesdays. Great win for Vocational School
Many congratulations to the Ballymahon Vocational School football team who beat St. Paul’s College, Raheny, in the Leinster Post-Primary Schools Senior “D” Football Championship Final on Saturday last with a final score of 1-10 to 0-9. Well done to the mentors, teachers Conan Casey and James Galvin, to brothers Jack and Shane Fox, Ballymulvey who are on the team and to all the team members, you should all be very proud of this great win.

A Craft Fair is being held at Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre on March 14th from 1p.m. to 5p.m. You are invited to go along to the beautiful setting of Ardagh and browse the stalls. You might find a lovely Mother’s Day present or something beautifully crafted for yourself. Tea and Coffee will be on sale on the day.

Tashinney National School will host an Open Day for prospective parents and children on Wednesday 18th March from 4-6p.m. This will be an opportunity for families who may be interested in enrolling their children in Tashinney School to visit the school, meet the teachers and view the facilities. Launch of new Poetry Book
Congratulations to Valerie Masters, St. Matthews Park who will be launching a new book in association with Lapwing Publications called “Conversations in the Dark” in Ballymahon Library on Thursday March 5th at 7.30p.m. This is her first book which was originally written as a novel, a tragic love story, but halfway through the process, Valerie changed course and told the story through a number of poems instead. We wish her the very best of luck with her new book of seventy poems.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
A new committee has been formed and a number of meetings have now been held to organize the Ballymahon St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2015. In order for the parade to be a success it is vital that it is supported by local businesses, community groups, schools and the people of the town. The Theme of this year’s Parade is the World Wide Web. This theme was chosen to coincide with the launch, on St. Patrick’s Day, of Ballymahon’s Development Committee new web site; Ballymahontown.com The Parade will start at 4.00p.m. and as usual will start down at the Creevaghbeg road. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for Best Float and bearing in the mind the Theme is very broad, floats should be as colourful as possible. So come on everybody, let’s get 2015 off to a good start with a great parade on St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Remember it’s your town. So if you are in a position to support the parade, please do. You can do so by entering a Float, or simply volunteering to help out on the day.

Well done to Longford U-21 football team who had a convincing win against Wicklow in the U-21 championship in Newtowncashel on Wednesday evening last. They now go on to play Louth in the next round, tonight, Wednesday March 4th in Newtowncashel again. The best of luck to the team.
Well done to Longford Senior football team and to local lad, Kevin Diffley who convincingly beat London in the Division 4 League match, played in Ruislip, London on Saturday last. We hope all the people who travelled over for the match enjoyed themselves.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs Tess Frawley, Darogue and to her husband Michael and their family on the death on February 19th last of Tess’ sister Julia Keenaghan (nee Coffey), Roselawn, Naas. Julia is pre-deceased by her husband William and sons Patrick, Desmond and Declan. Julia and William were frequent visitors down to Ballymahon for a long number of years, she always enjoyed those trips. Our deepest sympathy is also extended to Julia’s family Francis, Hubert, James, Carmel, Finbarr, Philip, Garrett and Oliver, and to all her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
