Friday 6 March is the First Friday. The sick and housebound will be attended as usual. First Friday Confessions will take place in Abbeylara Church at 7.00pm followed by First Friday Mass at 7.30pm.
Fatima First Saturday
Mass will take place on Saturday, 3 March in Carra at 11.00am with Confessions.
Bishop Francis has requested as part of the Rededication ceremony of St. Mel’s Cathedral on Sunday, 17 May that each parish have a banner. The banner made from fabric would be held aloft on a pole. The fabric can have the name of the parish, a relevant local symbol and have whatever colours the parish chooses.
Our Parish Draw will take place on Thursday, 5 March in Carra at 8.30pm after the 7.30pm Mass and Adoration. You are welcome to attend. Any monies due to the draw, please hand in before then.

Presentation of medals to U21 Championship winners and Division 3 League winners takes place on Saturday, 14 March 2015 in Crawford’s. A Club meeting will be held on Thursday, 5 March in the Handball Sports Complex, to discuss arrangements for this presentation.

On Monday 9 March the proceeds of Bingo at Streete Parish Park will go to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. This Trust aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating their loved one(s) who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland. Bingo starts at 8.30pm and your support would be very much appreciated for this worthy cause.

Youth 2000 Ireland
Invites all young adults aged 16-35 to a Catholic weekend retreat taking place from 6 to 8 March at Galway Community College, Moneenageisha, Galway City. This will be an exciting weekend attracting over 100 young people from all over the country.
Special Olympics Ireland urgently requires volunteers in the Longford Area to help with our charity Collection Day on Friday, 24 April. Collection Day is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The money raised on the day will be used to ensure that Special Olympics Ireland can continue to realise its promise of offering people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate in sport in their area. Granard Visitor Project will hold their next public meeting on Tuesday night next, March 10 at 8.30pm in the Community Centre, Barrack St. Granard. Our monthly draw for February will also be held at the meeting. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Door to door fund raisers will be in our Parish for a couple of days during March and April. They will be wearing a blue branded Trócaire jacket and carrying a photo I.D for identification. The purpose of their visit is to raise awareness of the work of Trócaire and to request if you would like to support Trócaire on an ongoing basis. Granard Easter Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday April 4 and 5. A fun filled, action packed weekend is in store. Our Historical walk will take place on Saturday Morning. Our Grueling 5k run on Saturday afternoon. A not to be missed Novelty Race will take place on Saturday night. On Sunday we will have our Easter Parade with Street Entertainment and Live Music. Veterans of World War 1
We are trying to compile a list of all people from our parish who served in World War One. Later on this year Holy Mass will be offered for all these people. Their names could be placed on a stand with other relevant information about their service. During the Mass for these Veterans they could be acknowledged and thanked. Please contact us with any relevant information that you may have about our Veterans. Volunteers requested to do this survey – perhaps one from Abbeylara and one from Carra.
Active Retirement held their first get together of 2015 on Thursday 26 last. There was a good turn out and all our members were looking and feeling fine after the harsh weather of January/February. Our AGM will be held on Thursday 12 March and we hope to have all our members present on this occasion. There will be a special welcome for new members as this is the start of our year. In order to travel on our outings you have to be enrolled as a member and membership fees are been taking at the next get together.
“Tir na nOg Macra is hosting The Ultimate Table Quiz this Friday the 6 March at 9 o’clock in Creegan’s Pub, Bunlahy. This quiz is in aid of club promotion and to encourage new members to our ever growing society. There will be a raffle on the night with prizes such as a trailer of timber along with hampers of goodies. €10 per person, refreshments and music on the night. All welcome, it’s a night not to be missed”.
2015 Irish Vintage Society
Streete Parish Park will host the 2015 Irish Vintage Society All-Ireland on Sunday, July 12. An all-out effort will be made to make this an outstanding event which will not only benefit the parish of Streete but also the counties of Westmeath and Longford. Cycle and Climb
The 5th annual Glenn Brady Memorial Cycle and climb will take place on Sunday, May 31st. This unique event is challenging and most rewarding, with 147km cycle and a 3-3.5 hour climb on Croagh Patrick. So there is plenty of time to train and we will look forward to another very successful day on May 31st. Details on Registration will be available in the coming weeks.
The Carers Association
The Carers Association are providing QQI (FETAC) Level 5 Care of the older person training on the 26/03/2015. This will be run one day a week for five weeks from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
