A 20k and 50k Charity Cycle in aid of Palliative Care Longford will take place on St. Stephens Day, Friday, 26 in Granard, starting at JV Donohoe’s Corner House. Senior Citizens Christmas Party
Thank you very much to our Senior Citizens who came for their Christmas Party on Sunday, 7 December in Crawford’s. Thanks very much to the people who organized the event, those who provided the food and those who served it, those who provided the entertainment, especially Mary O’Connor, to Josie Crawford and William for the use of their fine facilities, to those who supported the Christmas Party financially by contributing to the two fund raisers namely the Table Quiz and collection, both held recently and to all others who helped in any way. A great evening was enjoyed by all present. The Party began with Holy Mass.

10k & 5k run/walk
Coole’s Christmas Challenge in aid of the Carers Association takes place on Sunday, 28 December, from Castlepollard to Coole Hall starting at 2.00pm. Whether you want a fun day out or to set yourself a challenge you are invited to come along and help raise much needed funds for the family carers in Longford and Westmeath. Entry fees for the 10 at €15 or 5k at €10 or €5. Family rate costs €20. Refreshments and music after in Pat’s Bar. This is a timed event and is AAI improved.

St. Christopher’s Services have opened up a ‘Pop Up Shop’ in Longford Shopping Centre Car Park. The Christmas Craft shop will be opened until Saturday 20 December and will stock Christmas gifts all made in Longford and it is an ideal way to continue your support for St. Christopher’s which means so much to so many people.

Gun Club Christmas Draw
The Gun Club are holding their annual Christmas Draw and Party in Crawford’s Lounge on Saturday, 20 December, music on the night is by Na Fianna. Tickets for their draw are now on sale by club members and in local shops, 1st prize €300, 2nd prize €200, 3rd prize €100 and 4th prize €50; tickets cost €2 each or 3 for €5. Abbeylara GAA is holding an important meeting on Thursday, 18 December in Handball Sports Complex, Abbeylara at 8.30pm. All officers and committee members are requested to attend please. 25 Card Game
A 25 Card Game takes place every Friday night in the Bay Horse, Granard at 9.30pm. This Friday night we will see all players playing for a Christmas Turkey/Ham of their choice. New players are most welcome. There is also live music here every Saturday Night with refreshments served on the night.
Patrons of Granard Country Markets are reminded that the last market before Christmas is on Friday 19 December from 8.30am to 11.00am. All at the market wish their customers and friends a very happy Christmas and thank them for their support in 2014. The market will reopen on Friday 16 January 2015 and look forward to continued support.
Longford County Choir
Longford County Choir will perform a Christmas Celebration Concert in St. Mel’s Cathedral Centre on Sunday, 21 December at 7.00pm. Special guests on the night will include St.Chrstopher’s Choir and the well known local soprano Emer Barry. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to local charities and St. Christopher’s Services. Tickets cost €10 and are available at 087 6854876.
Congratulations to our U 21 Football team who won the Longford U21 Football Championship on Sunday, 7 December in Glennon Brothers, Pearse Park, Longford. Well done to all the panel of players, to the management team, to all others involved and to Abbeylara GAA Club.
