An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service will attend Granard Area Action Group Information Office, Main Street, Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary. This Thursday will be the final clinic for 2014. Service will resume on 8 January 2015.

Longford County Choir
Longford County Choir will perform a Christmas Celebration Concert n St. Mel’s Cathedral Centre on Sunday, 21 December at 7pm. Special guests on the night will include St. Christopher’s Choir and the well known local soprano Emer Barry. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to local charities and St. Christopher’s Services. Tickets are €10 and are available at 087-6854876.
Granard St. Stephens day 20k and 50k Charity Cycle in aid of Co. Longford Palliative Care (remembering Breege Gallagher RIP). Registration for 50k from 9am to 9.30am for start 10am. Registration for 20k at 10am to 10.30am for start 11am. All participants are required to wear cycling helmet, reflective bib and have bicycles in road worthy condition. Refreshments will be served at half way points and upon return to town. A raffle will also be held to raise money for this very deserving cause. €20 per person with reduced family rate. All participants are requested to register on the morning in JV’s Bar, Granard. This event will be an enjoyable and fun way to work of the turkey and pudding!

Local Historical/Heritage Society
The December meeting took place in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre on Thursday last. There was a large number of interested people present. For the January meeting if you can bring along any old photographs of the area or people. These photos will be scanned and returned to the owners on the night. Granard I.C.A. guild held their final meeting of 2014 on Thursday, 4 December and had a very fruitful meeting followed by Christmas Supper and Carols. On Saturday 6 December members travelled to Crover House Hotel for Christmas Dinner and Cabaret. This was a wonderful night and was enjoyed by all. Our next meeting will take place on Thursday 8 January 2015. There will be a Bring and Buy sale on the night so bring along any unwanted small gifts. The competition for the Steegan Cup will also take place at this meeting. The theme for the competition is to compose a “Limerick”. Happy Christmas to all members and their families and every good wish for 2015.

On Tuesday, 6 January Nollaig na mBan the Federation are having an evening to celebrate Little Christmas in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of ICA in the “Sin Bin” Rugby Club Longford. Supper will be served between 7.00p.m. and 9.00pm followed by entertainment with Mary O’Connor.
