Arva played Ballymachugh in the first round of the Hotel Kilmore Junior Championship on Sunday evening last in Kingspan Breffni Park and having got to the Final last year hopes were high that we could get a good run again. It was not to be however and we lost by 3 points 1-11 to 1-8. These sides have met numerous times over the past years and very little separates them with victories going one way and then the other. Arva will play Munterconnacht in the next round and need to win to keep their interest alive in this years competition. Arva team: Richard Keith, Shane Finnegan, Daren Gray, Stephen Ellis, Thomas Brady, Ciaran Brady, Jonathan Mc Cabe, Brian Fitzpatrick, Fergal Mc Glade, Peter Morris, Alan Barry, Ryan Magarahan, Jonathan Mc Cabe, Conal Sheridan, James Morris. Subs – Conor Mc Entee, Cian Sheridan, Paul Bouchier,

Breffni 20 K

The annual Breffni 20K Challenge took place on Saturday last with the proceeds going as usual to St Luke’s Hospital for Cancer Cure, Care and Control, N.B.C.R.I. (National Breast Cancer Research Institute), and Cavan Cancer Homecare. Despite the heavy rainfall, there was a great turnout and everyone enjoyed the event. Some started from the Meadow View, Cavan, some started in Ballinagh while a new start point this year was the 5K from Pump Gen, Gurteen. Great credit is due to everyone who participated and to the long list of stewards who had to work in the rain from early that day. Thanks is due to the Gardaí in both Cavan and Arva for their assistance and to Cavan County Council who facilitated the Walk with signage and closing the Arva / Ballinagh road to traffic for the duration of the walk.

The Arvagh 3 Province Festival got underway on Saturday week last, 26th July and concluded on Monday last, 4th August. There were numerous attractions each day/evening and large crowds attended throughout the 10 days. There were too many events to start listing them here but suffice to say that all were well organised, well attended and enjoyed by the large numbers that attended. One of the highlight’s was the Historical Walking Tour of Arva where many locals made contributions. Another was the evening in the Breffni Arms Hotel with “The Lads of Comedy” featuring Kevin Mc Gahern, Gowna from the Republic of Telly. Quite a number of locals got a “touch” during the course of the evening but it was all in good humour and enjoyed by the large attendance. The Fireworks on Gartylough Lake was a fantastic spectacle with the reflection on the still lake surface adding to the quality of the show which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present. The committee are to be thanked sincerely for their efforts over the past months in preparing 10 days of entertainment for all sections of the community. It was extremely well organised with nothing left to chance and is a credit to all involved. We look forward to 2015 with interest.
