The Ramblers journeyed to Lanesborough on Sunday, July 27th for their last walk before taking a break for the month of August. They walked the Commons North Trail which has been developed by Lanesboro Tourism Co-op as part of a plan to attract people to the area and the Co-op has provided several information boards describing wildlife in the area. There are also pictures and a history of the abandoned quarries which once flourished there providing crushed limestone for agricultural use. The Trail twists and turns for 4.5km through an area of mixed woodland beside Lough Ree, starting and ending at the bridge in Lanesborough and provides an easy and very enjoyable walk. The Ramblers website is now up and running at www.boherquillramblers.ie with information and a gallery of photographs of Club activities. All the Ramblers are wished a very enjoyable break. The Ramblers will meet again on August 30th when Teresa Coloe will lead a walk in Ballallen Bog near Ballynacargy.
