Ulster Bank closure

By now people have come to terms and accepted that the local branch of Ulster Bank, Granard will cease business on 10 October 2014. Despite representations by local business people and politicians being made to the powers that be – it was all in vain. Customers received letters by post last Friday, 1 August confirming the closure.

Wednesday last, 30 July was another sad day for Granard with the closure of the Youthreach in the town. The facility is being transferred to Longford and will be located on the Battery Road in what was formerly the St. Mel’s Training Centre. All staff are being retained and will be employed in Longford. Over the last 11 years, Youthreach achieved some wonderful results with the students who attended and it was a credit to the principal Mr Sean O’Sullivan and his staff. Yet another closure of a premises in the town, losing out to Longford. We wish Sean and his staff every success for the future and thank them for their contribution to the education of early school leavers in the area over the years.
