A warm welcome home is extended to popular Ballinagh based Garda Joe O’Connor who recently returned from the United States following a most enjoyable and successful tour with the Mayo senior county football team – current Connacht senior champions and All Ireland finalists. Garda O’Connor – a member of the Mayo team management – has two nephews, both now playing members of the Mayo team. A native of Ballintubber, Co Mayo, Garda Joe during a very distinguished playing career, where he was equally at home in attack or defence wore the red and green jersey of his native county with distinction and which saw him win numerous Connacht championship medals. Joining An Garda Siochana, Joe would later take up duty in Cavan town which was a welcome boost to the local Gaels club with whom he threw in his lot and here added Cavan senior championship medals to his amazing collection. Following a most distinguished playing career, the popular Garda acceded to requests and taking over as team manager guided his club to further championship honours in what has been a truly amazing and successful career.
